yes, agree Rowland, and he added 1 extra problem. Kerberos auth, does not work right if you dont use the hostname (best in fqdn ) for the server it may work, but other things maybe not. for example, if you install also a squid proxy and you want to use kerberos auth. you must use the FQDN of the host in your browser to get it working. and thats just 1 example. It better you fix your dns and

Hi Yes you are right it is a workaround but the reason is not resolvable at the moment is because Samba server is not registered in our DNS yet. I believe once a DNS entry is created, I will be able to use the name instead of the IP in the user's profile path. (SOLVED ) you have been logged on with a temporary profile_win7, client+samba 4+WinServ2012
Hi I got help from someone in the #Samba channel. It turned out that my Samba Server (JIMMY) was not resolving. DNS was not aware of him. So the suggestion was to use the "netbios name = JIMMY" in my smb.conf and in the user's "profile tab" enter the path using jimmy's IP. \\IP\disk1\profs That did the trick. Thank you everyone for your time and help. Many thanks

issues with Windows 7 roaming profiles
Hello, I have a centOS 5.5 box acting as as a PDC with samba 3.4.9 and openldap 2.4.22. Then I joined the domain with a centOS box (samba 3.4.17) which hosts the homes and profiles. I have no problem with XP clients. I can join a windows 7 client to my domain but it is unable to load the profile when logging in. See below a level 2 log.smdb from the file server when I log in with a domain

Windows7 client can not see samba server in "Network Discovery" window.
Hello everyone I have setup samba4 on centos7 as a member only server using yum and is called jimmy. A windows 2012 server for Active Directory and a win7 client for testing. Both the client and jimmy are members of the same windows AD domain. The problem is that jimmy does not come up on the client's "Network discovery" window. Even if I type jimmy's IP address \\IP on the

trouble with tcltk (was RE: trouble compiling R on Irix)
Hi, Thanks to Profs. Ripley and Tierney for their tips, I compiled zlib from source and gotten further. Here's where I get stuck, when it tries to compile the tcltk package: ld32: FATAL 12 : Expecting n32 objects: /usr/local/lib/libtcl8.3.so is n64. Now I'm confused. Sounds like 32-bit vs. 64-bit problem. What can I do at this point? (This is on Irix.) Regards, Andy

help for linear-circular correlation
Hi R-profs, Maybe my question is a little off topic. Could any one tell me how to calculate a linear-circular correlation coefficient and its p-values? I had a quick look at circular and CircStats packages and did not find the related function. Thanks for any kindly help. Creating data for logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards regression
I know that mvrnorm from MASS (generously provided by Profs. Venables and Ripley) can be used to generate multivariable normal data that can be used in a linear regression with certain desired characteristics (e.g. a given mean for each variable as well as a given variance-covariance pattern). Is there any similar facility that can be used to generate data for (1) a logistic regression and (2) a

Merge?
I see that feature freeze for a better than ever R has been announced. May I ask if there will be or could be "merge" function for data frames? I believe it would be very nice if this were "centrally" implemented (with regard to my humble steps to writing such a function and the related error and other precautions). I know from VR2R.pdf (courtesy Profs. Venables and Ripley)

Problem with Snowball & RWeka
The Java error when attempting to use the stemmers in the Snowball or tm packages on Windows machines is caused by Quicktime. See prior posts in this thread. The workaround is to uninstall Quicktime. After much trial and error on machines spanning WinXP/2k/Vista/7, I finally verified this as follows: 1) Fresh installation of Windows/Java/R. Snowball package works perfectly. 2) Install Quicktime.
