Increasing database size limit
Hi Volker, First I apologize for very late reply. I did tests in the meantime... Trust relationships are the option we keep in mind. As trusts are for now bidirectional-full-trust they give us possibility to increase domain size. If we have to split our domain we will split in one domain for users and another for computers (meaning users' MS Windows computers as they need to be included into

winbind limitations
Hi Volker, I have same behaviour here without enumerating users or groups. As soon as the DB increase too much (which is not too much, my tests months ago made Samba starting to hang on certains commands (ldapcmp, wbinfo -u...) around 40000 objects in Samba database. On DC wbinfo -u is hanging today after 10s. This on the 2 DC I tested (on 20 DC). As soon as wbinfo -u is launched RPC PID of

32 bits limit?
Hi all, Still playing with a big database (120k users, 150k computers) I tried to split my users into a lot of OUs. This increased the database size and I was not able to finish to add users into the DB because database file has reached 4GB size which seems to be the limit. First: am I right to say file /var/lib/samba/private/sam.ldb.d/DC=example,DC=com.ldb has a maximum size of 4GB? Secondly:

winbind limitations
Hi. Does winbind has limitations with lots of users in domain? I'm compiled samba 4.3.1 and created 40 users, so winbind and getent works fine, but when created 26.000 users and "wbinfo -u" doesn't show users. On DC Member Server, "wbinfo -u" and "getent passwd" doesn't show users to. On log.wb-CORP appears: [2016/02/23 18:46:46.319393, 1]

Problems with OS X 10.11.5
I disabled client signing from the client side, via OS X's global nsmb.conf file: https://discussions.apple.com/message/30282470#30282470 The performance was back to over 600 MB/s, as compared to 60 MB/s with signing. It just seems a bit weird to me that Apple, in response to the Badlock bug, would have changed the OS X client default to something with such drastic performance implications,

Hi Volker, Reaching to RedHat is not the option for me right now, could you please tell me are there any configuration parameters in smb.conf which will avoid issuing NULL or Anonymous connections or sessions. CIFS Null Session Vulnerability Fix in Samba 3.5.10
Hi Everyone, I have Samba server 3.5.10 running on RHEL 5.8 platform and it has joined to our AD domain controller. Recently my Windows guys has done some changes to AD Security by stating " CIFS Null Session Vulnerability Fix via GPO - Security Requirement". After this change, my windows clients are not authenticating with domain credentials while accessing the shares, but nothing has

samba 4.4rcx WINS nsswitch module
I would appreciate it if you can change the host value in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file from *hosts:* to *files wins dns * and try again by restarting the server, since the error occurs whenever I restart the server. However, If I change the host value which is *hosts: * in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file to *files dns wins *and restart the server everything runs perfectly, when the alignment of

poor samba performance with many smaller files
The directory is small, it contains only one file. stat() takes 15ms and if I read 1000 files it sums to 15 seconds. So the issue is really that open file is synchronous. How to use ldapsam only for authentication?
Hello, > As far as I understood you are using ldapsam only when Samba is running as > AD domain controller. it is only a standalone server, no sid/gid (mapping) needed. All users and groups are local (passwd/groups) maintained. We only want to authenticate the users against the ldap server (openDJ). No Active Directory is used. But if I configure, there are a lot (to much) ldap

Samba on AIX - Active directory

I want to move to either the version on the AIX expansion pack or the rpm's IBM suggests we download, https://www-01.ibm.com/marketing/iwm/iwm/web/reg/pick.do?source=aixbp&lang=en_US The problem is that the samba version from pware that is working is old and I don't see the pware downloads anymore to upgrade to a
