Samba4 AD DC Sites / Rename Default-First-Site-Name and internal DNS
Hello,
I'm running a few tests here with two locations.
site1: server-site1.gsg.local subnet 192.168.200.0/24
site2: server-site2.gsg.local subnet 192.168.190.0/24
both are connected via VPN.
I migrated an samba3 domain at server-site1 it gets
Default-First-Site-Name assigned. Then I joined the new samba4 domain
withe server-site2. Both servers work and i can join and access them

Active directory sites & subnets
Hello,
Reading about, specifically in the wiki
<https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Active_Directory_Sites> link, says the
following about subnets.
"Create a subnet entry for all subnets in your network and assign them to a
site:"
The subnet on which our DCs are configured is a public IP block, but the
client machines are in a subnet with a private address block.
Do I need to

Sites and Services not updating sites in DNS
Hi there,
Working with an old installation of Samba, I am creating a new site from Windows with Sites and Services, all seems to go OK from the Sites and services perspective, but these changes are not reflected in the DNS ?_sites? folder.
Any hint ? Am I missing something ?

SRV records.
OK, fair point... perhaps I wasn't clear enough, this happens a lot...
probably my brain just operates on a different wavelength.... in my
original message I said "what method does it use to decide which is the
correct (most local?) domain controller to connect to"
The answer I got was "it uses sites, you need to set up sites"... the
answer I was hoping for was one of

dns_tkey_gssnegotiate: TKEY is unacceptable
I installed a third DC today. Replication works find, but as systemctl status samba-ad-dc showed an error w.r.t. dnsupdate I was running samba_dnsupdate ?verbose.
Below is the output. It looks like there are some missing DNS records, but what are potential causes of this error: dns_tkey_gssnegotiate: TKEY is unacceptable
I already checked what?s listed @

GPO, multiple DCs, sites and sysvol
Hi list,
I recently realized that using multiple DC has a major drawback when
using Samba
In my understanding, in a classical AD environment, sysvol share is
supposed to be a DFS share. This means that proximity rules are applied
when accessing to it.
When using samba it seems that we face a classical round-robin DNS,
which can lead to the situation where a machine on site A tries to fetch

AD RODC not being used because of missing DNS entries?
Hi,
We have encountered these timeout issues with Samba 4.7 as an RODC too.
We created a ticket about it here :
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13502
One thing is that even after the timeouts got resolved, I still get a
weird behaviour with two entries that keeps trying to update themselves
when I run "samba_dnsupdate". The call succeeds, but the entries are

Changing the IP Address of a Samba AD DC doesn't work - samba_dnsupdate crashes
Hello!
I've followed your tutorial to change the IP Address of our Samba AD DC:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Changing_the_IP_Address_of_a_Samba_AD_DC
But the samba_dnsupdate tool always crashes with this output:
samba_dnsupdate --verbose
Unknown parameter encountered: "ks"
Ignoring unknown parameter "ks"
IPs: ['192.168.68.201']

Thanks for the answer ligpanda101!!
For DC's that are not present on a subnet, assign the subnet to the closet

Visibly via RSAT, how would that look?
