How Can I create a group policies with Samba?
Not sure if you are asking about server or client. Are you asking about :
1. Pushing GPOs via Linux SaMBa Server to Windows machines?
1. i believe this has been somewhat doable for years using a windows
workstation mmc pointed at a Samba Server.
2. Pushing GPOs via Linux SaMBa Server to Linux machines?
1. At least four years ago, LikeWise.com had some very limited GPO

Missing Policies folder after failure; how to recreate
Dear Samba List!
Long story short and please just don't ask; if it were up to me this
would have not happened:
I need to recreate the default GPO-s (as in the
\SysVol\domain.of\Policies\ folder and subfolders) of my domain.
Trying to delete the old GPO-s I run into errors, both in the windows
mmc and on the dc with runing samba-tools as root.

Am going thru the learning curve on using samba as a primary controller.
Samba is up and running just fine. However, I'm a bit confused on the
ntlogin.pol thing. I'm gathering, if all the workstations are winxp, I
need to do this??

sorry, the darn reply to got me again

can you remote regedit from linux?
if so, you can execute on logon from the samba server a push of the keys,
you can even make a queue of pushes that run only once.

Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC
I'm installing a Samba 3.0 PDC with LDAP backend in a classroom in
a Spanish school. Client workstations are Windows2000 and, in the future,
there will be Linux clients.
I'm following the Samba Project Documentation book (also known as Samba
Howto Collection). The document is wonderfull, but there is a part that
I don't fully understand, maybe because, as you can read, I'm not a

Is Server-side GPO Configuration possible? (for logon script)
Is it possible to make GPO changes from the server (i.e. without using
Windows) ?
I would like to include some configuration in my build-out script and
wonder if it is possible. Specifically, I am trying to provide a logon
script. Here's what I know.
1. I can identify the correct GPO GUID object using "samba-tool gpo
listall" or with something like this
$ ldbsearch -H

We use local (!) GPOs on our Win2k clients with great success:
- log on to "master" workstation as administrator
- create a link to the "C:\WINNT\system32\GroupPolicy" folder on your
administrator's

The proper ADMX for your version of Windows are on Windows itself in
C:\windows\PolicyDefinitions. You just copy the content of the directory
(and subdirs) to your Sysvol share \Policies\PolicyDefinitions

Samba as AD-Controller: unable to update policies and call start scripts
Hi list!
I have an Ubuntu 14.04 Server with Samba 4.1.6 acting as Active Directory
controller.
I worked 'till today, now I tried to join a new PC to the domain and it does
not work...
Problems: start and shutdown scripts are NOT called at all, logon scripts are
called on the first PC, but not in the new one.
The new PC did not receive the policies and did not mount the shares.

Open Source W2k Policy Implementation (was Re: Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC)
John,
What I've done so far is mostly a hack. I've implemented some custom
VBS scripts at login to install software (that only works part of the
time because my method for granting the users admin priviledges is a UI
based VBS hack which types the password in for them from an encrypted
VBS script) and I've yet to implement any Windows policies as I've not
been motivated enough to

Implementation of W2K Group Policies from a Linux Ser ver
Just a quick congrats to John for repling to this email constructivly.
Too often do people fire out the ole RTFM speel. More people within the
OpenSource community could do with taking a leaf out of his book.
On topic for a second, do not discount being able to lower the spec of the
below machine due to careful implementation and installation. You may wish
to take a look at the kernel
