Clients unable to get group policy...
Sorry for the delay, I have been out of town. Your hunch was correct, Rowland. Both getent and id only return local machine accounts, not domain accounts. What have I overlooked which would cause this? I do have winbind in my PAM configuration. James, it has worked for a few years. It recently (in the last year) started having workstations report being unable to access the gpt.ini files. The

Samba 4.5.3 AD DC - issues with sysvol when setting up Group Policies
I have Samba 4.5.3 working fine as an AD DC and DNS provider. I now need to set up a group policy on the DC but I am having problems with the internal sysvol and netlogon shares. Via the Windows Group Policy Manager snap-in I successfully created a GPO specifying the DC as the primary time source for all clients, using the Administrator user ...but my windows domain test client

Permission denied on GPT.ini (Event ID 1058)
I hate 'me too' replies - but I have also been struggling with this for some years in my multi-DC environment. (yes, replicated sysvol via lsyncd + rsync; permissions looked identical via getfacl last time I checked). Sometimes a client machine will run gpupdate just fine; other times it will fail, seemingly randomly. My next step was going to be to run wireshark on a client machine to

Restricting DC Roles?
I have a small AD forest of two Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers. I would like to add a Samba 4 DC to this forest. After running into some problems with group policies, I realized that Samba 4 does not currently implement file replication. I would like to have the Samba 4 domain controller replicate user/computer schema with the Windows machines, but I would like for DNS and group policy

Samba 4.2.14 GPO issue
Hello Sébastien Le Ray, The PC reply the following... The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the user name. This could be caused by one or more of the following: a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller). sysvol acl's broken beyond repair
ok, I've investigated the problem more closely. First of all, I didn't mention that I have 2 domain controllers: dc(initial) and bdc (backup). Rsync command /usr/bin/rsync -XAavz --delete-after dc:/usr/local/samba/var/locks/sysvol/* /usr/local/samba/var/locks/sysvol/ fires every 5 minutes on bdc. However, if I try to gpupdate from bdc I get the above error. Gpupdating from dc works

windows sysvol share
Hello, I have manually mounted the SYSVOL share, sync it with samba and run samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset. But I'm not sure if all windows policies are acceptable by samba because of errors logs: 2015/03/18 09:30:52.197934, 0] ../source3/smbd/oplock.c:338(oplock_timeout_handler) Oplock break failed for file myDomain.local/Policies/{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}/USER/Registry.pol --

No, in my opionion its an old setting thats just needs some updating. Try this. samba-tool ntacl set "O:LAG:BAD:P(A;OICI;0x001f01ff;;;BA)(A;OICI;0x001200a9;;;SO)(A;OICI;0x001f01

windows sysvol share
Of course, the sysvol is located on a windows controller from the forest. mount -t cifs -o username=domain_admin_user //windowsDC.myDomain.local/SYSVOL /mnt/smb/sysvol and copied the files with -R --preserve to /usr/local/samba/var/locks/sysvol/ Below logs are provided from /usr/local/samba/var/log.smbd file. regards, On Wed, Mar 18, 2015 at 3:36 PM, Rowland Penny <rowlandpenny at
