Posix vs. Windows File/Directory Permissions

Nothing happens between posix permissions (acls) and windows permissions (ACLs), they are different, see: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares_with_Windows_ACLs On Unix, you can set read, write and execute/enter

State of Gluster 3.4 alpha 3 NFS ACL support
Wonder if someone can point me in the right direction here - just built some new bricks running gluster 3.4 alpha 3 (from http://download.gluster.org) with the objective of testing them to replace some existing 3.2 systems in production. The main thing I was after was NFS ACL support, however on getting everything setup, I still don't seem to be able to see POSIX extended ACLs on the

file permissions with inherit permission + ACL's
Hi, I have a share (testshare) where different unix groups (testgroup1, testgroup2) should have access to. But I want that new files are only created with 660 permissions. Here are the ACL's of testshare: # file: testshare # owner: ralfgro # group: ve user::rwx group::rwx group:testgroup1:rwx group:testgroup2:rwx mask::rwx other::--- default:user::rwx default:group::---

Office 2007 saves files as read only on samba shares?
I've been running the same configuration for a couple of years now, and since I've upgraded to Office 2007, MS Word and MS Excel files save to my samba shares as -r-------- even when they are opened as being chmod 777. Files I create/edit using other editors or windows explorer are put onto the share with the correct permissions. My conf looks like this: [global] workgroup = WG

dovecot ignoring folder permissions on directory creation
Ubuntu 8.04lts Dovecot 1.2.6 So, further to the 'deliver' problem posted yesterday I've also discovered another issue regarding permissions: files and directories are being created 0600/0700 by the IMAP and deliver process (depending on who gets there first!) preventing use of shared mailboxes. According to documentation: "When creating a new mailbox, Dovecot v1.2+ copies the

How to access shares via HTTP (apache2)
Hello, I configured samba fileserver as a member of samba domain. PDC and fileserver are different machines. It works great using windows sharing. Now, I need to set up apache to serve my shares, but I am having problem with permissions. Apache runs as www-user, and doesn't see content in shares. So I would like to ask, what is the proper way to use apache (or another http server) to serve

unix_primary_group = yes don t work
thanks for the answer, Louis. i m talking about the userhome dir. I ve already read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders and i m applying the posix acls to my share. As the users's home is shared between windows and linux, i d rather use the posix acls than the windows ones. Beside the homedir of my users have a form like /home/ first letter of name /login ( ex : /home/d/dare

DISASTER - Samba corrupts shared directory data - URGENTLY
Hi all, I need a biggest help... I have the following environment: - SuSE 8.0 with all patches; - Samba (2.2.3a RPM-SuSE) + LDAP; - OpenLDAP2 (2.0.23 RPM-SuSE); - smbldap-tools (0.7 - TGZ). All was functioning perfectly, but suddenly one of the Samba shares presented problems: the files/directories are corrupted!!! No changes are made in configuration, and appear the following datas in to the

groupmap on member server
Greetings, My setup is a multimaster win2k domain with full trusts established. My samba server has joined one of the master domains as a member server. smb.conf has encrypted passwords enabled and security=domain and running on Samba Version 3.0.1pre1 on Linux 2.4.20-20.9smp. Groupmap seems not to work as I was expecting it to. I am trying to map the local unix group

Can't see or change ACLs on Windows
I have samba server joined to a domain that I'm trying to use ads security and acls on. I can set acls on the Unix file system, and access from a windows client seems to honor them. I can't view the acls under the security tab, all I see are the standard Unix permissions instead. If I try to add an entry to the acl, I get an access denied error, even if the user is on the list of admin

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland, sorry, I hit the wrong reply button in the last answer. So there is no other way than to use Windows ACLs? I was told with our old systems (Samba 3 in non-domain mode) the behaviour I want to achieve was possible when only using ugo. Greetings, Felix -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: samba [mailto:samba-bounces at lists.samba.org] Im Auftrag von Rowland Penny Gesendet:

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland, yes I do have two separate config files for smbd/nmbd and winbindd. You can tell winbindd to load a separate config file via the "-s" command line switch. Therefore I set "WINBINDD_EXTRA_OPTS" in "/etc/default/sernet-samba" to "-s /etc/samba/winbindd.conf". The "cached_login" option for pam is also set and working. The problem was
