Updating Samba
Hello everybody,
I have an Ubuntu server installed on the Samba 4.3.11 Ubuntu from the Ubuntu sources.
Now I want to update Samba. I downloaded the version 4.8.3 of samba.org (tar.gz) and unzipped it.
./configure always fails:

Bug#764113: xen: build-dependency on libgnutls-dev
Source: xen
Version: 4.4.1-2
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)
User: ametzler at debian.org
Usertags: gnutls3
xen build-depends on libgnutls-dev which is
- scheduled for removal
- and (somehow related) uninstallable.
The b-d therefore makes xen FTBFS (uninstallable b-d).
Please check whether a gnutls build-dependency is actually

samba4.2.0 crashes on connection attempt with an internal samba error...
Dear Samba fellows,
I try to install samba on my notebook in order to get it into
my samba based domain. It was a bit picky to get everything
assembled on the notebook - but that last issue is hard. :-(
I installed it from the sources on Debian Jessie - exactly
in the same manner I used for my servers. I got sssd and
kerberos working...

samba430-jessie script question
All software development progresses so quickly that anyone's script may
not be current. Even a script I may have written. And that is the
overall challenge with scripts, in general. We users become dependent on
scripts. And we users need the learn independence. I have been learning
what scripts do and how scripts do what they do.
I was wanting to install 4.3.1 on Debian8 and see if I

compiling samba in an container
my first round of trying to compile samba 4.2 from source in an lxc
container. Host OS is ubuntu 14.04 lts, and lxc template was the ubuntu
template. This is a privileged container.
good news, is the container seems to function well. Bad news is missing
dependancies.
So, in tracking down depenancies, here's what I installed in to the
container
apt-get install python
apt-get install

I generally like to install things that are released separately in
separate packages. I assumed ldb was developed separately too but it
sounds like it is an internal samba-specific library?

12.04 precise which I like to upgrade to 4.7 and also I want to do a
release upgrade for Ubuntu from 12.04 to 14.04.

It seems to be a Kodi CMake issue, but I would argue Samba or trousers need to
change the name of "read_data" to something more unique if it is going to be an
exported shared symbol.
Kodi requires libmicrohttpd. The libmicrohttpd library

Well, it has been about a year ago, when I installed my servers.
And by then libgnutls-dev had been available without any problem.
Maybe there are some remnants on the system - I frankly don't know.
I will definitely try

need some help with compiling mod_gnutls
Hi everybody,
I want to build mod_gnutls. The problem: CentOS' version of GNUTLS is too
old to link against, so I compiled and installed GNUTLS from source and put
it into /opt where it doesn't hurt the already installed GNUTLS. Now I have
trouble linking against this version as the autoconf buildchain in
mod_gnutls does not find the newer version.
I tried like this:
./configure
