pam_winbind vs. pam_ldap ?
Greetings, All! I'm using Samba 3.6 and OpenLDAP currently. The core configuration has been done eons ago, and I'm not quite sure it is actual any more. I see a number of PAM-related errors every time the system boot up. One concerning me is Jan 28 02:31:21 daemon1 perl: pam_ldap: error trying to bind as user "uid=root,ou=Users,dc=darkdragon,dc=lan" (Invalid credentials) Is this

Member server - winbind unable to resolve users/groups
Greetings, All! I'm trying to get the former PDC back into domain after performing a classic migration. AD DC is running fine... if you can call it that. I've edited the smb.conf and nsswitch.conf as suggested in Wiki article, and rejoined the domain. Went fine apart from failed DNS update with local zone. # net ads testjoin Join is OK But there's no data in getent, and domain users

NSLCD works, do I need RFC2307 extensions enabled in AD as well?
Hello all, I've just installed Samba 3.6.6 from the Debian Stable repo. I want to use this linux box as a smb file server for windows clients. I installed NSLCD to allow users in AD to authenticate against my linux server per https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Local_user_management_and_authentication/nslcd getent passwd and getent group returns domain users with UID mappings like: tempuser

Samba 4.1 Member Server and Winbind
Hello everybody, for a while I am running a Samba 4.1 AD server under FreeBSD (from the FreeBSD ports). At thw moment the domain has ca. 20 Windows 7 desktops. I wanted to add a Samba 4.1 file server as a member server, was able to joint the domain and see AD users via "winbind -u" but "getent password" or "id <user>" does not work. The smb4.conf is

Winbind idmap partially fails to load attributes with 4.6.7 (Ubuntu 17.10)
Greetings, All! I'm stumbled upon an event I can't understand. Rolled out a new Ubuntu 17.10 box in preparation for eventual 18.04 launch and… it just does not fly. Here's a brief and apparent summary of the problem: $ smbd -V; getent passwd anrdaemon Version 4.3.11-Ubuntu (14.04, 16.04) anrdaemon:*:10000:10001:Andrey Repin,,,,umask=0027:/home/anrdaemon:/bin/bash Version

Noob question: user moved to a OU dissapear from getent, but groups don't
Thanks to both for answers. I'm using the latest version of wheezy-backports (Version 4.1.17-Debian) and in this server i don't need to map the AD users to linux tools (i'm doing tests before change anything in production servers), but i'm planing to use a File Server and a Print Server in separated machines and I need to have access to AD users. If I disable winbind entries on

Time synchronization issue
Hi, I have set a Samba AD DC on my network. Version is 4.1.17 on a Debian Wheezy. I have an issue on my Windows XP SP3 clients : the time on these computers is not synchronized with my Domain Controler. Big problem is, if time difference is considerable (more or less 5 minutes), users can not log in. On the other hand, my server is correctly synchronized with NTP server. I don't

I think this wont work since the user connectig isnt known in the AD, since the user connecting is mapped to user nobody. auth_check_password_send: Checking password for unmapped user []\[]@[] auth_check_password_send: mapped user is: [CCENTER]\[]@[] connect_acl_xattr: setting 'inherit acls = true' 'dos filemode = true' connect to service IPC$ initially as user NT

Please adwise on classicupgrade process
Greetings, All! I'm still on the topic, but probably I read too much stuff lately and can't have my head set straight. Situation: NT4 domain, LDAP+Samba 3.6, running under Ubuntu 12.04. The machine is also a network gateway and access (VPN/ssh) server. Target goals: 1. Upgrade to Samba4 (4.1 seems possible). 2. Convert to ADS. 3. Get rid of PAM-LDAP. 4. Retain ability for domain users
