facter fails to recognize OEL/OVS in operatingsystemrelease.rb
For the benefit of those running OEL (Oracle Enterprise Linux) or OVS, be aware that under 2.6.0rc4 facter doesn''t properly recognize OEL in /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/facter/operatingsystemrelease.rb. A diff for a fix is below; probably not the best fix but if you need it work now, this''ll do it for you. I''ve already filed a bug:

Factor and Level Issue
Dear useR's I have a small basic problem which I am hoping to get some help with. I have a data frame, testSeq_df, with 1 row and 500 columns. Each column is a character (a,c,g or t). I want this sequence to have 4 factors (a,c,g,t). When I try the following: for(i in 1:500){ if (length(levels(testSeq_df[,i]))==1) levels(testSeq_df[,i]) <-

OCFS2 upgrade on OEL 4.4 server
Hi, We are using OEL 4.4 server as Oracle Concurrent tier, we have two servers in the cluster. We have upgraded the OCFS2 from 1.2.7 to 1.2.9-1 about a week back in the DEV server. I have read about OCFS2 1.4 and it seems that the performance has improved in OCFS2 1.4. We have OCFS2 performance issues, we are facing this in prod as the file count increases in a log and out directories under

Xen Express/Enterprise/Server support for OEL
Guys With the advent of Oracle''s foray into packaging their own flavour of linux are there any plans to incorporate OEL (Oracle Enterprise Linux) support into XenExpress/XenEnterprise/XenServer? Specifically vm creation/import/export etc..? Since OEL is based on Redhat I''m assuming this would be relatively trivial?? Thanks in Advance Mike.

any significant differences between centos and OEL?
someone just pointed out to me that there is a distro called "oracle enterprise linux" which is effectively a re-branded RHEL, so i'm curious -- has anyone here used both centos and OEL and would there be any differences that would be worth caring about? the only thing i can think of that might be worthwhile is that OEL might change some of the default kernel parms thru

how to play multiple speex audio streams simultaneously
Another approach that I have come across is to decode all speex audio streams and add their 16 bit signed PCM values clipping values above 2^15-1 and below -2^15. Is this a reliable appproach? anyone using LARS package in R
Hi useR's, Has anyone used the "Lars" package in R before? If so, is there any tutorial (not manual) or worked out example online for this R package that one can go through to figure out how one can use this package with lasso regression? I appreciate any help I can get in this direction. Sincerely, Vishal -- *Vishal Thapar, Ph.D.* *Scientific informatics Analyst Cold Spring

String concatenation, File Path Handling to pass to download.file( ) [backslash in DOS paths]
Gabor, Thanks much. Your solution is elegant. My overall scheme is to take present date, and check whether it is a weekend, if not, then create a string based on the date, to concatenate into a url link for download.file( ). The files I need to download have a part which is in the format: mmddyy. I am working to make myself a system to connect to exchanges, and download end of day files from

fitting a mixed exponential distribution
Hi all, I am attempting to fit, and test the goodness of fit of, a mixed exponential distribution to my dataset which consists of 15minute rainfall intensity data. FYI, the dataset spanning approx.2 years and 7 rainfall stations consists of some three hundred thousand 15min data records, of which some 30 thousand are non-zero rainfall amounts. Could anyone please tell me how i could do

getent doesnt't list group
Hi to all, I have installed Samba+winbind+kerberos on a Ubuntu OS, configured authentication to our ads domain as member I can list user and group using wbinfo, if I use getent I have the ADS user but not the ads group (only local group). The problem is that samba does not recognize group in the filesystem and assign a wrong gid to the objects. I tried to change winbind separator to \ or / but
