User accounts being blocked
James, I configured the account lockout policies by RSAT, GPEDIT.MSC. By GPEDIT.MSC I set the value = 10 attempts. Through the samba-tool, I used this command: # samba-tool domain passwordsettings set --account-lockout-threshold=11 INFO: Current debug levels: ... pm_process() returned Yes Module 'tombstone_reanimate' is disabled. Samba Active Directory Domain Controller
Hello James, To your questions: *"Are DC1 and DC2 in the same geographical location?"* Yes, they are in same location, & they are in the same subnet as well. *"I'm also unclear from your message if you are still having password issues or not."* **It appears to have been resolved. When we randomly checked, users were able to change their passwords. However

I am fairly sure Samba will ignore GP password policies, but if you set the policies with the samba tool command, then it should adhere to it, unless you are running across the bug I mentioned. You would see multiple badPwdCount increases for one bad password in the logs if you are experiencing that bug. -James Crouch On Aug 19, 2016 2:26 PM, "Ricardo Pardim Claus" <ricardo.claus at

Password Settings Objects - Maximum password age not enforced?
Hey All, I am testing PSO password policies and am having trouble getting the Maximum password age to be enforced. I have a test policy applied to a group and it does enforce complexity and Minimum password length but not the Maximum password age. Anyone using this setting for PSO's? Authentication Auditing
Hello, I believe there may be a bug with accounts getting erroneously locked in v4.4.5+. I've checked at all the Internet facing services to find the source of account lockout and I've done packet captures at the DCs, but I cannot find the source of lockout. I've got several accounts locking out for seemingly no reason including some service accounts where the passwords

Domain Password Settings
Hello all- I'm looking to tweak password settings for my domain but have a few question regarding the settings under "samba-tool domain passwordsettings show". While I found some settings were documented on the wiki (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Password_Settings_Objects), I did not find answers to a few questions I had. If "maximum password age (days)" is set to

Clearing account lockout
I recently am migrating my PDC from NT4 to Samba 3.025. Apparently due to a mismatch between the capitalization of the Windows account and the Unix account (Administrator vs administrator) I managed to lock the account before catching the discrepenacy. # pdbedit -v administrator Unix username: Administrator NT username: Administrator Account Flags: [ULX Bad password count

Account lockout feature
First of all, I want to say I have been using Samba AD for two years now (since just before 4.0 went stable), and it is an amazing product. We've implemented Active Directory & Group Policy for almost 50 computers and 100 users. Unfortunately, we are now being forced into switching to Windows DCs because Samba does not have an account lockout feature. Citrix (stupidly) does not have

Passwordsettings
As Rowland points out, that password already meets the complexity criteria, so I don't think Password Settings Objects (PSOs) will help here. PSOs allow you to tailor different passwordsettings for different users, i.e. turn complexity on or off for specific users. PSOs don't let you customize the criteria that determines whether a password is complex or not. So you could use PSOs to

User accounts being blocked
Dear James, Thanks for the input. Even increasing from 5 to 10, the amount of times to miss the password and lock the account (after changing, I wheeled a gpupdate / force), if you miss 3 times the account is locked. I changed smb.conf log level to 9. I tried to unlock the account using the samba-tool command line, but without success, because I can only unlock using the RSAT. I get these

weak passwords
Hi, Is it possible to test our AD for weak passwords? We have set max password age, and password complexity etc. However, we would like to know that the passwords that are CURRENTLY still in the system are good or weak. Perhaps some kind of tool to test dictionary passwords etc, but preferably locally on the /var/lib/samba databases to not lockout the accounts due to too many failed

Changing expired Samba AD password during Windows login
I'm running a Samba AD 4.7.4 and cannot set a new password for a user with an expired password during login from a Windows PC. Changing a password from inside a login with cntl-alt-del "change password" works ok. I've already decreased the minimum password age to 0 samba-tool domain passwordsettings show Password complexity: on Store plaintext passwords: off Password history

vcd package --- change layout of plot
Hello, I'm trying to use the vcd package to analyze survey data. Expert judges ranked possible features for product packaging. Seven features were listed, and 19 judges split between 2 cities ranked them. The following code (1) works, but the side-by-side plots for Cities PX, SF are shrunk too much. Stacking PX on top of SF would make for a better plot. (I could switch the order of
