Smbstatus shows same share for same client several times - related to locking issues?
Hello, we frequently face locking issues with office applications and documents on samba shares. The office applications claim that the document is locked and hence no write access is possible. I can check on the samba server that there is no concurrent access/locking from other computers or users. It looks like the same user holds some lock and is denied to access the document because it?s

server max protocol appropriate values
Hello, My DC smb.conf currently has the following set server max protocol = NT1 server min protocol = CORE client max protocol = NT1 client min protocol = CORE Is it safe to change both the client and server max to = SMB3? What about on member servers? Should I be concerned with anything breaking? I'm using Windows 7 clients to authenticate against Ubuntu

Synology NAS Samba Upgrade breaks "Classic" domain membership
I have a Synology NAS array appliance. It is linux based and uses samba for file sharing. Normally the config is done via a gui interface but you can ssh to the array. The domain controllers are running Samba 3.6.x in classic domain mode. I have member servers running 3.6.x and 4.3.8. no problem. I recently updated the Synology "OS." The current version of samba is

wbinfo -i output different before 1st authentication
Dear all, on CentOs7 based linux w. different versions of Samba (4.6.x from CentOS repos, but also Sernet-Samba-4.7.4 and also compiled from source), "wbinfo -i user at domain.tld" returns different results before the first successful authentication of the user. Server joined as member to Active Directory, idmapping via tdb2. On first attempt, the result returns

Windows 10 and Samba 4.1.17-debian (NT Domain)
OK, then here's the weird part. I have another server, hosting other files, lets my Windows 10 system connect. The main server won't though. They are both running Debian Jessie 8.3, and Samba 4.1.17-debian. Below is the /etc/samba/smb.conf file *that works with Windows 7 and 10*: [global] workgroup = SD57 netbios name = SAMBA server string = sss interfaces

IBM AIX problems
Heiner Schwarte has helped me with the AIX problem that I and Janusz Kawczak recently reported here. Heiner had found out earlier that there was a problem with the 'finite' c-library function [Heiner's test code see below] when gcc (and older versions of xlc) is used. He also found that instead, AIX defines a FINITE(.) macro itself in fp.h and that this would work in any case.

Hardware Raid cards RAID 0 / 1
Last week we tried to install Centos on a brand new HP ML150 G2 with AIC-8130/ Marvell SATA Raid card and it was a no go. We tried a few other flavors of Linux as a test and all had trouble as well. Unfortunately time didn't permit so we opted for a Windows solution to get the box into production. We have never had a problem with IDE and Embedded SATA (Non Raid) Next time we want to

server max protocol appropriate values
Hi Gaiseric, Do you happen to run into any oplock(opportunistic locking) issues? On my DC I have these issues with my group policy files. I'm hopeful using smb 2.0 will fix this problem. Thanks. Synology NAS Samba Upgrade breaks "Classic" domain membership
On both the synology (samba 4.1.20) and PDC (samba 3.6.25) testparm showed client schannel = Auto server schannel = Auto I don't know if the server even supports schannel. Maybe it doesn't any all the clients successfully negotiated not to use it. On the synology, I set client schannel = no This fixed my domain membership issue. Although

wbinfo -i output different before 1st authentication
Thank you very much, Rowland! Very helpful. But do you say that the change in the output of „wbinfo -i“ is expected after the user has logged in? Should the use of „domain.realm“ vs „NTDOMAIN“ not be consistent, no matter if the user has logged in or not? R on AIX (>4.2)
Hi, I'm determined to get R compiling & running on a machine running AIX 4.2. I've seen previous emails in the archive about this topic. The main obstacle is getting dynamic loading to work, but it works for Tcl and hence is feasable. Questions: - is anybody _currently_ working with R on AIX? - why have previous fixes to the sources not been introduced into the released

SYD flood dropped on Sendmail (centos 4.x)
My guys, My firewall seems to block an attack my Centos / Sendmail boxes on port 110. These servers require a reboot after each attack. My firewall says it's blocked? Do I need to patch something on sendmail? Or is my firewall not doing its job (Sonicwall)? This is not the first time this has happened. 11/20/2008 02:53:04.864 - SYN flood attack dropped - 75.2.205.141, 48102 -

I'm sure this has been brought up before but i searched through the last few months of archives and i couldn't find any mention of it. I've been having this problem in debian unstable for the past few months and it's seriously got me within 2 inches of deciding to invent a way to make computer programs feal pain. For some reason (my all anonymous access) setup only lets you
