net ads and wbinfo are painfully slow -- but they work
I just created a windows domain. it is essentially empty except for a couple of users and an group policy related to windows update. I then configured samba to connect using ads. net ads join took > 5 minutes - but worked fine net ads testjoin takes ~5 minutes - shows a good join wbinfo -u takes ~5 minutes and shows the users During the long wbinfo pause, the log show: "Starting

"net join" failed, but it still worked
Hello, I am using AD authentication. When I setup samba on my new server, users could not access shares. However, the following command "fixed" the problem: net join -U XXXXX\\cstankevitz The command returned what appears to be an error: kerberos_kinit_password XXXXX\cstankevitz at XXXXX.CORP failed: Client not found in Kerberos database Failed to join domain: failed to connect to

Windows explorer pop-up descriptions: unfair to Samba
Hello, I would like to get this question answered in support of a decision about whether or not to move some large shares from Windows Server to Samba. Windows Explorer has a feature called "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items", which I will call SPD. SPD, which is enabled by default, shows a folder's contents and size when you hover your mouse cursor over it. It

Windows 7 to Samba 4.1.4 in complete copies from CD/DVD
I have a test server setup with Samba 4.1.4. All file interactions test work except when copying files from a CD or DVD to the samba share on Windows 7. I have a CD with a folder that contains 324 files and 22 sub-folders. Consistently if I drag/drop or copy/paste the folder in Windows Explorer directly from the CD to the samba share only 53 files and 4 folders get copied. No error dialogs

Hi, I'm using Samba 4.1.6 (version included in last Ubuntu LTS version). I've some directories in a share. One of them has an exe file. In root of my share I've a lnk file to this exe. So I've: /home/share/IntegrDom/IntegrDom.exe and /home/share/Install_Client_Scribe.lnk (which is a link to /home/share/IntegrDom/IntegrDom.exe). This point is important, if I remove this lnk

Bug: floating point bug in nclass.FD can cause hist() to crash
Hello everybody, This is a bug involving functions in core R package: graphics::hist.default, grDevices::nclass.FD, and base::pretty.default. It is not yet on Bugzilla. I cannot submit it myself, as I do not have an account. Could somebody else add it for me, perhaps? That would be much appreciated. Samba on AIX, issues setting read-only flag on files through Windows Explorer?
Hello list :) I am having issues setting the "read-only" flag via Windows Explorer on my AIX Samba share and I was hoping someone out there would be able to point me into the right direction to solving this issue... I have on my AIX 7.1 system installed Samba 3.6.24 and configured, joined to our Windows domain successfully. The samba binaries I got from perzl.org/aix In my smb.conf I

Intermittent permission denied when accessing share
Thanks for the suggestions! > The latter is easiest to deal with, replace it with a CNAME in the AD dns. I did the CNAME, but when I remove the netbios alias I can see the shares list when accessing \\aliasname, but then I'm not allowed into any of them. I tried rebooting the client but same result, and I also don't see anything in the logs :( > The first will require a bit more

debian wheezy 4.1.11 ldap backend / uid/gid resolving
Hi, i am transitioning from a samba3 to a samba4 installation and while at it i noticed that on samba4 every file access querys the LDAP (openldap) backend for uid/gid names. With samba3 on Debian/Squeeze i dont see this happening. My assumption was that nscd would cache away those querys which it doesnt on the samba4 wheeze installation. [2015/01/09 15:21:46.331508, 3]
