Active directory sites & subnets
Hello,
Reading about, specifically in the wiki
<https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Active_Directory_Sites> link, says the
following about subnets.
"Create a subnet entry for all subnets in your network and assign them to a
site:"
The subnet on which our DCs are configured is a public IP block, but the
client machines are in a subnet with a private address block.
Do I need to

GPO, multiple DCs, sites and sysvol
Hi list,
I recently realized that using multiple DC has a major drawback when
using Samba
In my understanding, in a classical AD environment, sysvol share is
supposed to be a DFS share. This means that proximity rules are applied
when accessing to it.
When using samba it seems that we face a classical round-robin DNS,
which can lead to the situation where a machine on site A tries to fetch

dhcp best practice
I have been wanting to allow our routers to continue to serve dhcp thinking
this would give us a safer fail environment. Now we are learning that our
routers can handle creating a whitelist of mac addresses to use for dhcp
leases. So we need to look at alternatives.
I am wondering how many samba AD DC's also run dhcp -- and if there is a
samba 'good practice' for managing dhcp. Yes, I

Map share based on site?
In Samba/NT i was used to share mapping done in netlogon script, so
users move around between sites, get home and profile from remote
location but still have share mapped from local servers.
In Samba/AD, using GPO, share mapping is in ''user policy'', and so
user roam between sites and get different policies?
I'm googling around but i'm a bit confused... i can still use

Extending a Samba4 domain to multi-site
Hi folks,
I have been using Samba4 as an Active Directory domain controller with many clients since about 2013, and it is the best.
I have recently been asked to extend the AD domain in a clients office, to 6 other physical sites. Rather than reinvent the wheel, what is the best way to accomplish this given the current support in Samba4?

samba versions as ad dc
Will a samba 4.1.9 work fine if there are newer samba 4.x AD DC in the
domain?
I compiled samba 4.1.9 from source on ubuntu 14 server. Now I am wondering
if I can use the debian backports repo and get whatever samba is current
there --is is amba 4.1.11 ?
Not sure if its worth it to compile samba for each of my addc's, or if I
can be lazy and use the deb from a repo.
Would love

DNS and DC replication clarification
All,
I configured two DCs (Samba version 4.5.5) replicating ad.corp.com in two sites (
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Active_Directory_Sites)
Following 'DNS configuration on Domain Controllers' section from this wiki
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory
If I configure nameserver DC1 to be the first resolver for DC2,

preparing for a new site with an extra domain controller
Greetings!
after all these years of running Samba I am still learning and having to
learn more :-)
I am trying to research howtos and docs, but from my experience it
sometimes would have been better to ask BEFORE trying things.
So:
At a customer we happily run 2 samba-AD-DCs for one single AD domain, on
one geographical site, in one single IP subnet.

watchdog timeout
Hello
I have some problems with 3Com nics, after a upgrade from 5.5-STABLE to
6.4-STABLE.
This machine has two 3com nics (one is LAN other is WAN) and i see too much
"watchdog timeout" on both cards.
This on/off up/down on cards, affect the interrupt to clients that are
downloading from apache web server, especially on large files.

How to save a complete image of the current state of R ?
Hello,
I like to save the complete state of R, i.e. including
all environments, objects/workspaces, loaded packages etc..
This wish has arisen since I am not able to reproduce
an error which occurs when running R CMD check.
Many thanks for your advice in advance.

Users with large (4GB) inboxes crippling dovecot
Hi all,
I'm new here and would very much appreciate any help you can give me.
We are running a rather outdated mail server that until recently has been
running beautifully. Under the pretense of "it is ain't broke, don't fix
it" it hasn't been updated so is running Fedora Core 4 and dovecot v0.99.14.
What is happening is that as users log in (via thunderbird), they

Can't get if_txp(4) to attach to a 3CR990B-TXM NIC
Good morning,
I'm having a bit of an issue getting a 3CR990B-TXM NIC detected and
usable. Just wondering if anyone knows of any issues with this NIC
chipset and/or with the motherboard chipset.
The motherboard is a Biostar GeForce 6100 AM2 using an nVidia nForce 410
chipset and nVidia GeForce 6100 vide chipset.
I've tried FreeBSD 6.1, 6.2, 6-STABLE (from Wed), and 7-CURRENT (from
