SMB2 write performace slower than SMB1 in 10Gb network
Hi forks: I've been testing SMB2 with samba 3.6.4 performance these days, and I find a weird benchmark that SMB2 write performance is slower than SMB1 in 10Gb ethernet network. Server ----------------------- Linux: Redhat Enterprise 6.1 x64 Kernel: 2.6.31 x86_64 Samba: 3.6.4 (almost using the default configuration) Network: Chelsio T4 T420-SO-CR 10GbE network adapter RAID: Adaptec 51645 RAID

aio-pthread, conflicting param info
In the vfs pages for aio_pthread, it gives as an example for aio read/write size, 1024 for each and states an "appropriate" value must be set. Byt in smb.conf it states that the only reasonable values are 0 or 1 (also that there's a default = 1 so no value need be given explicitly). Which of these is correct? Thanks, Stilez

aio-pthread, conflicting param info
On a related note: Some time ago, you instructed a user to use the following aio_pthread parameter:     aio_pthread:aio open = true This is not undocumented in the man page. Does the parameter have any effect, and what is the effect? Although I tried for a while, I couldn't locate your original message. I don't remember whether it was posted on bugzilla or on a mailing list, but I

aio-pthread, conflicting param info
Meanwhile it appears to contradict. Is there any reason not to update the vfs doc to reflect the old situation pre-bugfix and the current suggested values? aio settings for samba 4.3
I'm tuning a samba 4.3 install on freebsd and I'm confused about aio settings. I've loaded the freebsd aio kernel module and tried various values or aio read size and aio write size, but it seems to make no difference in the speed. Using MS diskspd against a samba share from a fast zfs pool I get something like 25MB/s tops. That's well below the capacity of my Gb network and

Memory problems/questions
I have noticed that many games (Farcry 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Drakensang) crash with some form of out of memory messages. So obviously something is leaking memory (whether it is wine or the game or drivers, I cannot say). But it always happens as soon as wine uses ~1.5 GB of RAM. Also I wonder if it has something to do with this bug: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25428 I ran

Improving 30-40MB/sec Sequential Reads
I'm seeing some really poor performance out of my FreeNAS (ver 9.10) machine, running Samba "4.3.6-GIT-UNKNOWN". I'm using IOMeter to benchmark sequential reads, and getting around 35-40 MB/sec, which seems unusual. Mostly, I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of a decent tuning guide for a SOHO machine running Samba, but if you're inclined, I'll delve

tuned-adm fixed Windows VM disk write performance on CentOS 6
On a 32bit Windows 2008 Server guest VM on a CentOS 5 host, iometer reported a disk write speed of 37MB/s The same VM on a CentOS 6 host reported 0.3MB/s. i.e. The VM was unusable. Write performance in a CentOS 6 VM was also much worse, but it was usable. (See http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-virt/2012-August/002961.html) With iometer still running in the guest, I installed tuned on

poor samba performance with many smaller files
Hi, I need to to open existing readonly files. Yes you are right, not the open call takes the time, but stat() system call. I looked at aio_pthread source, the lines which needs to be removed to make it work are just the lines which tests for O_CREAT|O_EXCL? What problems can cause such solution for readonly share?
