It won't work. Because you will loose the filesystem ACLs if you sync
from Windows to *nix.

Permission denied on server root for all users
The problem existed between keyboard and chair. I forgot to install libnss-winbind. I'm sorry for wasting your time.

replicating sysvol with windows DCs
I have samba4 set up as an AD DC, and it's working well. It is one of
3 Domain controllers in a domain, the other two being Windows 2008r2. I
followed https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Join_a_domain_as_a_DC
One thing I that could be improved on the wiki is information about
SysVol replication when there are Windows DCs as peers to samba. I've

Administrators SID is invalid.
Hello,
I've got a samba 4.2 DC, which has worked well for about a month now. It
still works for all users except "Administrator".
If I login to a Windows box with the Administrator account, I can't
connect to any shares and clicking on a mapped drive returns the error
"The security ID structure is invalid".

Printers Showing up on Alternate Server Names
Hi all,
I am running samba 3.0.6. I am having an issue on my print server
regarding how the printer ends up registering itself on the Windows
clients. We have a machine named "bob", "bob" has an alias both in DNS
and in the netbios name in Samba of "printserver", "bob" has an IP
address of 192.168.1.1. In a seemingly random fashion sometimes when I

3.0.23: assigning users to printers
Hello
I just upgraded our PDC from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23 with all the bells and
whistles.
I am running OpenLdap as a backend and did what's been written in the
Changelog regarding indexing.
The new version started up fine and worked all right. Netlogons, shares,
printing etc. I could also assign ACLs to my files as before.
The PDC also works as a printserver running cups with the drivers

RSAT Print Management won't show shared printers under the "Printers" section
Hello,
currently I am trying to setup a Samba environment (Samba AD DC, Samba Fileserver, Samba Printserver) using Samba version 4.5.8-Debian and CUPS version 2.2.1-8 on Debian 9 "Stretch". I am trying to setup "Point'n'Print" atm.
While my Active Directory domain and the fileserver work well with my Windows 7 clients, I am having some issues with the printserver.

openvpn
I have a workgroup server with samba operating well and have configured
openvpn on it. That also seems to be working well. I also have other
servers at different locations with samba/openvpn working.
To access the openvpn server I use Windows and manually map a drive to a
drive letter using U: as \\servername\sharename
The shares work but I am mapping _through_ the samba server - that is I

"Windows couldn't connect to the printer" 0x00000709 when using server short name
Hi all,
Samba 4.3.11 is serving printers in my office from a server called
"printserver".
If a Windows 7 client tries to reach it using a short name \\prinserver ,
it can see the list of printers, but can't connect to any of them: "Windows
couldn't connect to the printer" pop-up appears immediately. Weirdly, it
doesn't happen all the times, sometimes it can

Hi,
I'm running a samba 4.2 server on RedHat5 and for some reason I can't
seem to logon using the AD Users and Computers -tool.
Whenever I try to connect to the PDC I get the following error:
"The following Domain Controller could not be contacted: <name of pdc>.
The RPC server is unavailable."
I've checked for any possible firewall issues, but even with all

Gluster replicate 3 arbiter 1 in split brain. gluster cli seems unaware
Hey,
Can you give us the volume info output for this volume?
Why are you not able to get the xattrs from arbiter brick? It is the same
way as you do it on data bricks.
The changelog xattrs are named trusted.afr.virt_images-client-{1,2,3} in
the getxattr outputs you have provided.
Did you do a remove-brick and add-brick any time? Otherwise it will be
trusted.afr.virt_images-client-{0,1,2} usually.

Linux and Printing via smbprint
Hi there
Looking at the archives I didn't find a solution to the following problem
we have here:
Printing from our linux-server (wagner) to an intel printserver (PS652D8F)
doesn't work.
Here's the stuff we know/tried:
wagner:~ # smbclient -L //PS652D8F -N
added interface ip=10.0.0.10 bcast=10.0.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
Got a positive name query response from 10.0.0.40 ( 10.0.0.40

printing via embedded USB printserver
hi,
I'm having trouble printing with smbclient via an embedded USB
printserver. This printserver is a nifty little $35 box with an Ethernet
jack and a USB jack that provides network access to your USB printer as
a Windows share (a poor man's Jetdirect, if you will).
I can connect to the printer with smbclient, but when I try to print
anything, even a small text file, I always get the

SAMBA / CUPS Printserver
Okay, I've got some progress now. Have fairly decent printserver
working. I've been able to reproduce the same postive and negative
results in two physical servers and now (finaly destination) a vmware
server.
What's working:
ADS integration, this is a domain member
Printer driver installation (for a few drivers)
Printer installation / removal
Printing.
