setting up W7 profiles
Gentlemen,
First, let me point out that sometimes (and sometimes not) the mailing
list will strip out some backslash marks in cut and paste. So, if there
is a backslash missing . . . well, ignore that missing mark.
Louis,
When your script runs it creates the following default permissions:
root at mbr01:~# ls -alh /home/samba/TEST/profiles
total 8.0K
drwxr-xr-t 2 root root 4.0K Feb 21 18:39

On my test system I can only get 'getent -V' to respond.

Debian, already 'root'.
Isn't the objective to get a 'SAMDOMDomain Admins' group onto the member
server? In the usual way to add any group to a linux box?

Okay, so I tried a "Bob thing" and it made no difference. So, no comment
on that. However, I am learning.
This is 'wbinfo -*' from my DC1:

setting up W7 profiles
Okay, so I did this to myself. I overlooked an important sentence on the
"https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_%26_Windows_Profiles". The
sentence that instructs to do "Profile share using Windows ACLs"
***OR*** "Profile share with using POSIX ACLs".
So, I have reset the permissions to how they were before I messed them
up doing the "POSIX ACLs" part.

setting up W7 profiles
Bob, to the following..
set the in smb.conf not more not less.
On the member server.
[profiles$]
path = /home/samba/TEST/profiles
read only = no
acl_xattr:ignore system acl = yes
restart samba
now type
chown root:root /home/samba/TEST/profiles
chmod 1777 /home/samba/TEST/profiles
Now go to the wiki and set the correct rights for a profile share.
and ONLY for AD! ( not the POSIX )

quick question on machine name
I have a box I just installed centos 4.5 on.
The name of the machine in /etc/hosts is TomSlick.xyz.com TomSlick (for
example).
the name of the machine in /etc/sysconfig/network HOSTNAME=TomSlick.xyz.com
Note both are upper case:
Yet when I login as root the prompt is showing me tomslick in lower case
not a combo upper lower.
I have grepped /etc and below for tomslick and cannot find why this

PRI congestion instead of busy
I have two servers, each connected to the PTSN via PRI. When I call from site A (951-999-9999) to site B (555-1212) and the phone at site B is on the phone, I hear the normal ring tone for about 20 seconds, then the message "all circuits are busy now. please try your call again latter" followed by the congestion tone. Instead, I want this to busy ring and then hang up without any

bug 11573
I am building a 64bit machine for a DC (CentOS 7) following the
instructions on the Samba wiki.
Installed Samba 4.3.1.tar.gz and when I try to provision the domain I
get: ERROR(ldb): uncaught exception - operations error at
../source4/dsdb/samdb/ldb_modules/password_hash.c:2241
Search the string and it is bug 11573 (assigned to Andrew.)
I realize that he will work on it when he gets time

Fwd: Installing EnterpriseSamba (Sernet-samba) on Ubuntu
I will add here that my server provisioned yesterday afternoon. However,
I did not have time to do any testing.
So, this morning testing and the first thing I discovered was
"sernet-samba-ad" service was NOT running.
I found a Debian Wheezy sernet samba posting (via Google) and within it
read that users need to edit "/etc/default/sernet-samba" as follows:

SOLVED Re: ntpq -p ***Request timed out
Thank you, Rowland.
Copied your simpler ntp.conf file into my member server. Made the
appropriate changes. Restarted all the ntp service on all machines (just
in case.) Ran 'ntpq -p' (on member server) and got the correct answer.
Proper connection to DC's.

I ran your "1-setup-sernet-samba4-ADDC-wheezy.sh" script and noticed

DC01 & DC02 differences?
I have created a DC01 & DC02 with Louis's (generation one) scripts. I
have noticed, during some testing that 'pam-auth-update' shows PAM
profiles Kerberos, Unix & Winbind listed on DC01.
The DC02 only lists Kerberos & Unix and Winbind is missing.
I thought that the two DC's were suppose to be identical? If DC01 goes
"down" DC02 cannot carry a winbind

add rsync -A -X to Backuppc "RsyncArgs" get 'Got fatal error during xfer (fileListReceive failed)'
Thank you. This helps get me closer.
One machine shows rsync 3.0.9 and the other shows rsync 3.1.0. Running
"rsync --version" both show "ACL, xattr" are supported.
Two questions, would the two different version cause it to fail?
Second, does the order rsync "receives" the switches matter. Does "-A"
and "-X" need to be near the beginning of

NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED, again!!!
At one point, I thought the same. Tried a "sleep 5" and still got some
failures. (That was before I started counting the fails.) This is a P4
3.2Ghz with 1Gb RAM. Could it be that sluggish (at that moment) and need
a "sleep 10" or "sleep 15" or more? It worked on my VM (of course it is
running on a multi-core Xeon processor so maybe a sleep?) I'm going to
try

so no python errors anymore, if i did it right. ;-)
