I was permitted too. But you were faster. :-) Possibly it's also worth to mention here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_management_from_windows I don't have a computer right now and it's difficult/not so comfortable to edit with a mobile. Sync unixUserPassword from AD Password
Hello, I am running a Samba 4.1.6 AD DC on Ubuntu 14.04. I provisioned with --use-rfc2307 and have followed the instructions here to enable NIS Extensions: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_RFC2307_on_a_Samba_DC#Configuring_RFC2307_and_NIS_Extensions_in_a_Samba_AD I can see the UNIX Attributes tab in ADUC and have all of the attributes populated. I am attempting to authenticate a Solaris

Is there something similar to ADUC in Samba?
I have a follow up to the question I asked and found a work around for today. Is there any tool in samba used to manipulate RFC2307 aka NIS Extensions that do not involve manipulating the ldap tree with a ldapmodify or directly editing the sam database with ldbedit? I see in the samba wiki that there is https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_RFC2307_on_a_Samba_DC that says ADUC can be used from

Samba 4 two DCs no matching UID/GID
At the moment numbers start at 3000000 and counting. In my eyes it would make sense, that these number be stored in the AD when provisioned with rfc2307. Or it should be replicated by drs. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_RFC2307_on_a_Samba_DC#Configuring_RFC2307_and_NIS_Extensions_in_a_Samba_AD says the following: No need for manual ID counting when using the default Microsoft tools. Samba 4 two DCs no matching UID/GID
Thanks for your answer and time you offer for me. That makes it a bit clearer. I searched the web and found that rsat needs to have the nis tools installed. Does it create Unix uid/gid automatically then? Without rfc2307 information it makes no sense to me to have a *nix machine for file services and another one for backup purposes, when uid and gid are not same (due to preserve acls). And for

wbinfo -u/-g/-n works, but not 'wbinfo -i' or 'id'
Hi! I'm trying to add a member to be used as fileserver, following the guides at: - https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_AD_Member_Server - https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_RFC2307_on_a_Samba_DC The AD server has been in use for month, but I can't get user information from the new member. The new member was joined to the directory, and nsswitch was configured. Running

winbind/idmap issue on samba4 member server
Oh! I think I did find the error now :-) If I understand "NOW" correctly, I have also to assign a UID to EACH of my AD users in ADUC tool in the [UNIX Attribute] tab, is that correct? I just tried out. In ADUC tool I did choose "testuser3", and on the [UNIX Attribute] tab I activated the NIS domain so it reflects to "MYDOM". Then by default there was UID=10000, I

W7 client cannot adjust file permissions via ADUC
I have been improving my DC. I now have a DC01, DC02 and a DCMEMBER01. All running sernet-samba 4.1.16 on Debian 7.8.0 thanks to Louis' (old) scripts. (Any linux client work has gone on hold, for the moment.) Next step was to adjust the file permissions as instructed on "Setup and configure file shares with Windows ACLs". When I access the "Computer Management" (thru ADUC

help, please, troubleshooting winbind testing during setup of Samba 4 AD member server
Hello, all! Well, third time is *not* the charm for me. (I've been through the process 3 times with 3 different DCs). I am trying to set up a member server, using Samba 4.1.14, and washing out when getting to the winbind testing. I've tried ignoring the failure and pressing on, but that didn't get anywhere. In this instance, I have a freshly-installed, configured and functioning

Samba 4 two DCs no matching UID/GID
I will try this tomorrow. Possibly this is my fix. When a domain is provisioned with rfc2307 it would make sense that Unix attributes especially uid/gid would automatically be set. A member also needs this to be set for unique fs acls right? Am 10. Howto migrate shares from samba 3 / ADUC changing uid/uidnumber when activating UNIX (posix) attributes
Hi, I've been using Samba 3 (standalone server, workgroup setup) for a long looong time and now I want to migrate to Samba 4 AD DC setup with clients joined to the newly created AD domain and all the bells and whistles that come with it. I've setup an AD DC (Debian wheezy with samba from backports) that will only handle authentication and a second AD DC that will also serve shares.

ADUC - "UNIX Attributes" tab - "Unwilling To Perform"
Hi, I am sure I have come across this before but have previously either ignored it or somehow worked around it. However it has come up again and this time I will try to find out what's going on, hopefully we can fix whatever the issue is. I have a Samba 4.2.2 domain that generally works fine; I have rfc2307 enabled so that I can keep UIDs/GIDs consistent across machines whilst still being

Hello Marc, thank you for your answer. I already added gidNumber 513 for the group. Now I added the two additional attribute for the group. I installed RSAT, and enabled the necessary modules according to the Samba wiki. I opened AD users and computers, and Domain Users' properties. When I click on the UNIX Attributes tab, I get an error: Execution denied. On the panel I see: NIS Domain: xxx;

ADUC - "UNIX Attributes" tab - "Unwilling To Perform"
Thanks Rowland - appreciated. I have checked the ldbsearch result and both groups look to be pretty much exactly the same to me, one of them is shown below (I have sanitised some of the output, replacing parts with 123/a/b/c, but the rest of the output is byte for byte as seen) In the time between posting my original message and checking again just now, however, I have the following additional

Can you give it a try?
