How do I disable kerberos?
*what* are you talking about? http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#beprecise * on no distribution a kerberos service is running out of the box * you don't tell us even what distribution are you using * you don't tell us the errors * you even don't tell us the how-to you are talking about Am 04.02.2015 um 18:04 schrieb jimc: > I have been told that kerberos cannot

delete kerberos databases and start over
Hi. Something happened with my Kerberos database*. I don't know what. I don't care much (right now). What I need to do now is to recover. I am running a small home network: 3 win7 boxes, 2 xps, 2 Mint Linux and one Puppy. I tried deleting /usr/local/samba/private/* and /usr/local/samba/etc/smb.conf as the how-to suggests, then doing a samba-tool domain provision. All my Windoze

Moving server to new box
Hi! I wish to move my Samba 4 server to a new box. Since the old one is pata and the new one is sata, I cannot simply swap disks. What is the best way to transfer my server without loosing configuration files? Thanks -jimc

Still can't figure out ACL issues
Yah, jimc again. I still cannot figure out what is wrong with my dc. The problem began with being unable to log on from Windows boxes after a power hit. The initial symptoms were: 1) When I log in on a Windows machine, with an account that should have administrator permissions, I don't have said admin rights. 2) When I attempt to launch the Windows remote server tools, I can select the

smb.conf getting changed?
Hi! I got my first Samba 4 system up and running. {No applause, just throw money. Paper please, coins hurt} It is just a home network of about a dozen or so boxes. I have noticed that when I do a testparm, the result is not the same as the file I created. I'm fairly certain it isn't anything to worry about; I'm just trying to learn. Thanks! -jimc

Still confused about Kerberos password expiry
I am running 4.1.6, as both a domain controller and a smb server. Whenever Kerberos decides my password needs to be changed, I have to change it on all the other boxes, too. How can I: A) Set the Kerberos password to never expire (I should be able to deal with password changes in Samba-Tool, eh?) B) Set the Kerberos password complexity off C) Tell Kerberos to stop remembering old passwords

kerberos on samba4 server / error loading ...acl_xattr.so (reply to Reindl Harald's replies)
Village idiot here again. Thank you for your replies. Really. As for the acl_xattr.so: I was trying a new 'out of the box' install. I have done the whole download source/compile/provision bit on a Mint 17.1 and I am getting much farther. Now I get 'cannot find kdc for realm "ozco.home" while getting initial credentials" when I try kinit. About Kerberos. You advised me

One username for multiple clients?
I've just got a question. I've searched extensively for an answer and can't seem to find anyone else who is even curious about this, much less an answer. Simply put: We don't care about security at the office. Our current configuration is to have just one SMB user logged in on ALL machines. We've had a little bit of weirdness but can't pin it down. In other words, we have

Still can't figure out ACL issues
Thank you for your reply. If you happen to read the post of 11/22, you will notice that it was not me who spoke ill of Samba. I put my bets on other people being able to figure it out; I hope that one of them will help me. Sincerely jimc

RPC server unavailable?
I have a Samba 4.1.6 up and running(?) When I try to join the AD, I get 'RPC server is unabailable.' This also happens when I try the Microsoft Remote Administration tools, I get the same issue. The samba, smbd, and auth logs don't seem to provide the answer I need, but that may only mean I can't see it. The workgroup server works fine. I have spent hours online and in the samba

Printing with CUPS & Samba...
I am trying to print from both a Win98 PC via Samba and a Red Hat 8.0 workstation to an HP 4 Plus printer that is connected to a Red Hat 8.0 server. I have managed to get the Win98 PC working OK, but am having difficulty with the RH8 workstation. I set the printer up using a browser with <Server>:631, calling it HP4Plus, and I can send a test print from the browser on the RH8 box via

For now, defaults to --install for compatibility; a future version will require one of these options. * New library functions to load and place files in

printer spool directory
HI! I've noticed that every time I install Samba 4, I need to create a /usr/local/samba/var/spool directory and give it 777 permissions. If I don't do that, I can't share the printers with my windoze machines. Is this by design? Should this be put into the how-to? Thanks -jimc
