Joining a domain
Marc, Thank you for taking the time to give me some complete answers. When writing to lists like these I often struggle with how much or little detail to give.... and I am eager to add more detail where you have explicitly asked. Joining a domain
Hello, Please consider a scenario in which samba is sharing files and users provide their Active Directory usernames and passwords to log into to samba. 1. Must "net join" be used? 2. Under what circumstances will samba (and family) require an explicit "net join"? 3. What technically is happening when samba/computer "joins" the domain? 3a. Is a file added to the

ads: tickets and joins
Hello, I have these questions regarding samba running in ads mode such that users are authenticated against active directory: 1. What is the role of 'kinit'? 2. How often must 'kinit user at domain.local' be run? 3. What are the consequences of an expired or non-existant klist? 4. Why does "kinit 'DOMAIN\user'" fail but "kinit user at DOMAIN.LOCAL"

Hi! I have samba 3.5.4 on an Ubuntu 8.04 running with windows 7 clients. (ldapsam as background tdb) I do have log entries of some machines in my samba log: /netlogon_creds_server_check failed. Rejecting auth request from client XXXXX machine account XXXXX$/ The user working on the machine does not seem affected in any way by that "problem" but It would be interesting how to solve

Trouble getting past net join ads...
I am in the process of getting samba working again with Activer Directory. Recently our IT department upgraded their windows server to 2008. I am following the approach described here: http://www.surlyjake.com/linux/samba/join-debian-lenny-to-active-directory-using-samba/ I am able to get kerberos to issue a ticket, but where I am running into a wall is with the net join ads part...

Samba crashes and domain problems

But I'm just lost packets on the interface that is not being used and is generating packet loss on bond. What can that be? Follow my settings bond [root at xxxxx ~]# ifconfig bond0 ; ifconfig eth0 ; ifconfig eth1 bond0

I think IDMAP_RID would not be the appropriate solution for me. Not only do I want consistent IDMapping across all servers - which this could do - but I want them to match the the existing unix uidNumber in LDAP. Thanks for your help.
