Update from Samba 3.6 to 4.1 on Debian
Hi, I read in the samba news, that everyone should update from Samba 3.6 to 4.x since Samba 3.6 will be discontinued by the release of 4.2. Is it possible just to remove/deinstall the Samba 3.6 package and then install the wheezy-backports of 4.1.11? Will all configuration and stuff be still there? Do I have to do further configurations to run the still NT4-Style domain? What is the common

NFSv4, homes, Kerberos...
Thank you for that, i did have a good look at that one. And i use Debian 9, if you test what i posted below in the thread, you will see NFSv4 works fine. Below is missing one more thing, the "allow to delegate (kerberos only) " on the computer object in the AD, should be enabled. And yes, i've see bugchecks also but only on my debian .. Lenny.. Stt.. ;-) .. Its my last lenny

Problem with "kerberos method = secrets and keytab"
Hi Peter, thanks for your hints. The point is, that no /etc/krb5.conf was generated automatically when joining the domain (told in the wiki). Now I generated one manually and now it works. I'm not frustrated at all. I see a lot of advantages for me, even if it doesn't work. Right now we have a system with Bind9, OpenLDAP, Kerberos, NFS4, Samba3 on the server side. I had to configere

timestamp in COM32 module
Hello, I am writing a simple module for measuring boot time. I would like to get a timestamp when syslinux is run and then pass it as kernel parameter and work with the timestamp later.. It seems that POXIS time.h functions are not implemented yet(?) in COMBOOT. I was reading this http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/Linux-For-Devices-Articles/Benchmarking-boot-latency-on-x86/ earlier today

Problem with "kerberos method = secrets and keytab"
Hi, I'm using the smb.conf from https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_AD_Member_Server to add a member server as file server to the domain. If I'm using the original smb.conf with "kerberos method = secrets and keytab", I'm not able to see any share on a Windows Client in the domain. If I use the default "kerberos method = secrets" everything works.

idmap limit?
Hi, yes, there are some things. But I have not found a nice complete documentation. One main point is the domain name as prefix of the username of the parent domain, e.g. "DOM\user1", you have to use. I was not able to get rid of it, as the client is member of the subdomain which is the default. So you can't use the "default domain" option in smb.conf. The backslash

NFSv4, homes, Kerberos...
I was used to integrate some linux client in my samba network mounting homes with 'unix extensions = yes', and works as expected, at least with some old lubuntu derivatives. Client side i use 'pam_mount'. Now i'm working on a ubuntu mate derivative, and i've not found a way to start the session properly in CIFS. If i create a plain local home (pam_mkhome), session start as

Errors for shares since 4.12.0
Hi, I tried samba 4.12.0 on our file server which is a domain member and exporting some shares. We're getting some strange errors on some shares since the update. Right after starting or restarting smbd everything is fine. After short while (seconds or a few minutes) users are getting errors when trying to access the shares, e.q. "Invalid Handle Error", "An unexpected

WINBIND idmap and tdbfiles while upgrading to 3.0.20a
Hello everybody, had anyone of you problems with winbind and tdbfiles, when upgrading from 3.0.14a to 3.0.20a? The Symptom was: After upgrading to 3.0.20a the idmapping was corrupt. Although 3.0.20a runs fine, none of the idmaping was resolved correctly. Downgrading to 3.0.14a "restored" the idmaps. tdbdump showed me the same idmappings, therefor i think winbind wasn't able

Problem with large uids
Hi, I have two member server and both with Samba 4.6.7. I'm using winbind for NSS and PAM. One of the member server is exporting an NFS4 mount which the other member server is mounting. For users with an rid-mapped uid below some value everything works fine. If the uid is above this value the group permissions are not evaluated and I'm getting a permission denied if a folder or file is

Thanks, I will give that a try. But I need the 'winbind separator = +'. We use some expensive commercial software (e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS, ...), which uses shell scripts to start their software under linux. These scripts are not able to handle a backslash in the user name. The only solution was to switch to a "+" character. We reported these issues two years ago. Regards,

Samba 4 and Windows Rights Management
Hi List, Please I need to answer this question... I have a friendly organization profiling Linux software solutions as an alternative to a Windows-based back end. I've been asked to find out if there's an alternative to the Windows Rights Management service. Im curious though, if Samba 4 could integrate with it? Thanks!
