Actually no, as I don't have *one* smb.conf.
I'll add three of them (the last three were I had this problem) at the
end of this email.
As you can see they are not exactly identical.

Full_Audit preventing file writing
When VFS full_audit is activated the server doesn't allow users to write
changes in any file.
The log vfs:10 shows:

4.1.0 auditing : can't get only wanted vfs operations to log
HI all,
So I'd like to log the user's operations on some shares.
As I need to know who made what when.
I'd read a previous answer from Andrew about auditing, so I can see
loggued operations.
Modified smb.conf :

Every hour I get a mail from logcheck with a line like

The strange thing is that syslog is filled with similar lines, but

applying a set of rules to each row
All,
I would like to apply a set of rules to each row of the sample data set
below. The rule sets are the guidelines for determining an individual's
date for retirement eligibility. The rules are found in this document,
http://www.opm.gov/feddata/RetirementPaperFinal_v4.pdf. I am only
interested in the top two categories for retirement eligibility, the
CSRS and FERS plans.
The data set has

I don't think it is vfs plugin because you haven't updated samba packages

Hi everyone,
Is there anything else we could do to check on this problem and try to
fix it? The issue is definitively related to either the samba vfs
gluster plugin or gluster itself. I am not sure how to pin it down

I went ahead and created a new share in the samba server which is on a
local filesystem where the OS is installed, not part of gluster:

multiple alternative LDAP backends
I'm using Samba marked 2.999+3.0cvs20020723 from Debian `sid'.
In smb.conf, I've got:

All works fine when both ldap servers are up, or when at least the
first is up. When the first is down, though, samba tries to connect
to it, doesn't manage to, and gives up instead of trying the

Thanks for taking the time to look into this. Since we needed downtime
due to the gluster update, we also updated the OS, including samba. We
went from 4.2.x to 4.4.4 and many other packages for CentOS were
updated as well. OS and samba updates were installed, then server
rebooted, then gluster was updated.
Created a new test samba share to minimize logs, etc:
