Shape incoming & outgoing multiple-backbone traffic
Dear all,
I have 3 backbones for my local network.
1st backbone: down 1024kbps, up 1024kbps through eth1
2nd backbone: down 2048kbps, up 2048kbps through eth2
3rd backbone: down 1024kbps, up 128kbps through eth3
Local network: 192.168.0.0/16 through eth0
Router: Linux Slakware 11 with iproute2
Please let me know how to shape both incoming and outgoing traffic for
this case.

[RFC] [PATCH] Mode=Switch: add per-VLAN forwarding database
Hi,
I'm inter-connecting AccessPoints using a tinc mesh and have bridge-nodes to bridge this vpn into some existing backbone.
The AccessPoints bridge their users into 802.1q VLANs (per WiFi-Client, there can be multiple VLANs active on each AP) in the tinc mesh, and the bridge nodes bridge some vlans into the backbone.
Now there is a router in the backbone that uses the same MAC on all VLANs,

OT: VoIP over bonded link
I have to provision several dozen * users to a seperate building on our
campus in the same subnet. Ordinarily, I'd just run a gigabit cat6 cable to
another switch if it doesn't violate the 100 metre rule, but this building
is several hundred metres away from my backbone. My only option for cabling
to the remote building is copper. My plan is to provision them with a Linux
bridge with 4

Hi all,
I need some suggestions or hints which syslinux version I shall use.
The main focus will be on PXE boot.

will swich to HTTP boot !
existing system:
- syslinux version 4.05 (tftp only)
- used modules : pxelinux.0, memdisk, vesamenuc32, patched startrom.0
- I boot .nbi , .iso, .ima and sometimes files (clonezilla etc.)

Class C network 223.255.255.x
Hi,
Most networks are using either 10.x.x.x or 172.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x , but
was curious If I can use the range 223.255.255.x for my backbone routing,
this looks like a nice block to use as most ppl don''t use this, specially if
you build quite a big intranet
what about the whole 223.x.x.x block, will this be used on the internet?
sorry if its a stupid questions
Thanks

KVM integrated network (user mode) dying after inactivity
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA256
Hi list,
I searched the web for bug reports regarding this phenomenon I see on
*multiple* machines of a customer, however, I didn't find an exact
fit. So, I'd like to ask here whether anyone else has run into this.
I have multiple CentOS 6 machines running using KVM to virtualize a
bunch of machines on them (LVM-based).

Newbie here. Tips on setting up 100 phones w anted.

Perhaps a more pressing question might be how you are going to backhaul
Ethernet in a 4-mile radius. You can't run a Cat 5 cable more than 100
metres reliably, and using Ethernet repeaters every hundred metres or so
isn't practical. You will need a fiber backbone or something like that. What

Graph dump bug
Hello,
i have observed a Bug in Graph Dump (think). tinc build fine Graph
dumps. Inside the dump is a tinc node which no longer tinc used.
Connection not inside of dump for this node. This tinc network is used
for backbone network in Chemnitz, Germany. We use tinc Versions 1.0.14
and 1.0.13 on PC (Linux) and router (OpenWrt).
In the attachment is the graph dump.
On this dump is name of node

Client-identifier option in PXE search order
Hello,
Is there any plan to use the client identifier field as part of the PXE
search order ?
This will be helpful when using PXELINUX on Infiniband network which do
not have 6 byte Ethernet MAC address.
Thanks,

SMB Network design guidelines
Hi:
Can anybody point me to some guidelines about SMB network design or
give some advice? Samba HOWTOs are very detailed recipes, but I need
some general tips, like if we are serving fish or pasta tonight :-)
This is the situation: a WAN with 20 offices with 2 to 30 people in
each, plus a headquarter with 50 people, plus the databases and
central file servers. The organization grew up on a NT4

in the backbone we have HP ProCurve switches and all of them (except for
the oldest series from more than 10 years ago) separate their forwarding
database per vlan. HP calls

Use of qcdisc+htb
Hi folks.
This message may be a bit verbose and not as techie as the ones I''ve
seen in this list, but describing the scenario will save a lot of
messages.
Scenario:
A building with 17 floors, each floor with 24 offices (totals 408
offices) connected to the backbone through a border switch (1 vlan for
each office). The offices can lease bandwidth of 64k, 128k, 256k,
512k, 1M and 2Mbps,

bind segfault in conjunction with dbus - what to change?
Hi all,
I have a problem running bind on C5.4 when the messagebus
service is activated. When I switch off the dbus message
service bind runs well. With dbus activated bind crashes
with a segfault.
How can I get rid of this error? What shall I change?
SElinux (the source of most unexpedted things) is switched
off.

Best setup for redundant routers.
I am setting up 2 Vyatta routers that will serve as redundant failover
core routers out to the backbone of our ISP. They will be serving for
routing between other branches and the ISP and bandwidth management.
I am trying to differentiate between the plethora of information about
having redundant, automatic failover routers and pretty much decided on
VRRP for the IP address failover mechanism.

Delay before shaping kicks in
I am shaping traffic very sucessfully, but I still have one problem that I
just can''t figure out the solution to.
When my backbone becomes saturated with traffic, I use prio to diffreciate
between users, so that those who
need it most, actually gets their service. BUT... when using prio, it
actually takes a few seconds before the service they
need is given to them.
An example:
