Timeout during authentication - connection timeout not configurable?
>> We use tincd over VSAT connections, and if the contract has been reduced to a bare minimum -and- the ship is moving, latency reaches 2 - 5 seconds (yes, seconds). Generally this is not a problem if you are patient (and most smart phones are), but tincd is slightly too fast in deciding that it is not going to work. We also use the tinc connection to check whether any traffic is possible.

ARP resolution not done from one end
Folks, We have a setup where each mobile node connects with 1 or more tinc instances (over different links) to a central node. tinc is running in switch mode. The link is chosen by setting the IP address on the active link's interface, and the central node sees this after the first packet on the link, and moves the MAC address to a different 'ethernet port' (link). This works really

Self-DoS
Hi, I have successfully connected a network of about 60 nodes (many of which are virtual machines) with tinc 1.0 but encounter a severe bug when physical connectivity between two major locations is lost and then reconnected. From what I gathered, many nodes attempt to connect to many other nodes, causing 100% CPU load on all nodes, taking down the whole network with no node succeeding connecting

Tinc via satellite link stalls often
Guus, Below a segment of a log file. I am trying to analyse why the satellite link goes down and up all the time (sometimes 10 to 15 times an hour, sometimes not for a day. My guess is that this indicates packet loss on the satelllite link and tinc not really recovering from that. Where I inserted an empty line the log basically stopped and was silent for I guess for 14 minutes? Would setting

Dev: new option to mark all tincd socket of a tincd process
I know i'm new to the list but i'd like to propose something for tincd daemon. I'd like to mark all sockets established by a tincd process with a mark passed as an argument in the command line. What could be the purpose of this new option? The goal of this option is to be able to have several tincd process running at the same time using the same port but using different ip. In

Route certain trafic via a tinc node that is not directly connected.

Tinc performance on a Dir-300
Hi, we are using Tinc in our Freifunk Network in Oldenburg for internode connections over the internet. So Tinc is running on OpenWrt 10.03 on Dlink Dir-300 Routers. We all have enough internet bandwith (1,6 MB/sec and more) but we only get a maximum speed of ~350KB/sec between two tinc nodes because then tinc uses 99% of the cpu. Is it possible to get more Speed with tinc on this machines?

[PATCH] New '-o' option to configure server or hosts from command line
Options given on the command line have precedence over configuration from files. This can be useful, for example, for a roaming node, for which 'ConnectTo' and <host>.Address depends on its location. --- This patch is against stable branch. Merging this patch to the 1.1 branch is trivial. I use this patch on my Debian for several weeks. Here is the ifupdown script I use (some

help with tinc unstable state
I am using tinc to connect together VPCs in AWS across multiple regions and accounts to provide secure communication. For the most part, it works great. A few times, I have seen issues where something got into an unstable state that didn't seem to resolve itself. Shutting down tinc on all hosts and restarting seemed to do the trick, but I'd like to see if there is something that I can

Asterisk IAX over VSAT satellite.
Hi all, For some reason VSAT or Satellite Internet services are not mentioned (or searchable) in this list's archives. I thought I'd let you know that I tested Asterisk using IAX (not IAX2) to make a phone call from an analog phone hooked up to an Asterisk system behind a Linksys router connected to a Gilat VSAT satmodem, and it worked. The "other end" (gateway) is a

tinc for Satellite connections (benchmarking)
Hello. I'm living in the country side where the communications are very very poor. My only choice is Satellite connection throw the French company Eurona which uses the network deployed by Skylogicnet. In general the latency is very bad (~800ms) and the network is very unstable. I have been investigating in the ISP routers which are in my path and there are many hops which are done in a

tincctl localhost timeout
First off, thanks to all who have made tinc possible and continue to work developing it. I hope perhaps in time I can become a useful part of this community. :) I'm having an interesting issue with tincctl and was hoping someone could shed some light on it. Everything seems to work correctly when I build for OSX; however on linux and windows builds, I always receive connection

tincctl patches
(Second try to send this. I wonder if the first one gotten eaten by a spam filter; I'll link to patches instead of attaching them.) Here are the tincctl patches I've been working on. They apply to http://www.tinc-vpn.org/svn/tinc/branches/1.1@1545. I intend to commit them once the crypto stuff's fixed. Since they're basically done, I'm emailing them now for review and in case

PingTimeout
Hello list, I use tinc with QOS, and since some weeks I got problem with tunnel disconnection because the default "Pingtimeout" of 5 sec is reach. I think it happens because of the QOS shappe the tinc traffic (data here) to let some BP for VOIP, but whate is very strange is that the ICMP protocol is not include in the shapping, so tinc would never 'see' latency on the link,

upload vs download
I have a tc script which splits the bandwidth in 8 leaf classes based on IP filtering. The script looks like this: tc filter add dev $LAN_IFACE protocol ip parent 1:0 prio 1 u32 match ip dst 192.168.0.121 flowid 1:11 The separation works excellent for downloads, but for uploads, it is ignored... Can you tell me how to deal with it? Thanks in advance, Vlad Mihai

SIGINT is a bad choice for changing log levels
Guus, I would like to ask you to reconsider using SIGINT for logging change. It?s a pain to kill tincd when started from the command line. Ctrl-C does not work as expected. Great for debugging perhaps, but in normal use cases, when trying to make a connection work and test changes it?s a pain. On BSD there is SIGINFO (29), which can be sent by pressing Ctrl-T, but I am not sure whether that

Metadata flooding
Hi, we use a tinc network of about 400 nodes, all of them linux servers, partly in different datacenters (but generally low latency). Usually this is working very well (for weeks without a problem). >From time to time the whole network goes down though. This happened when we restarted a larger number of servers or when there was a connectivity issue between datacenters or some (short)
