dbox alternate storage and samba
Hello everyone, i was just wondering if it's possible to use a samba share as an alternate storage for dbox format. I tried creating a samba share, but when i try to move the email to the alternate storage using doveadm altmove, no errors are printed but no mails are moved. Everything works if the alternate storage is simply another directory on the server hard drive. am i mssing

Documentation for "altpath" / "altmove" / ?"Alternate storage"
I was thinking about documentation for alternate storage. We have a few mentions at: http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/dbox http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Tools/Doveadm http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Tools/Doveadm/Altmove But I was thinking it would be helpful if there could be a page about alternate storage. I could write the page, but I currently have so many unknowns that I think it would be

Convert from maildir to dbox
Ok...I made the leap. Compiled a copy of 1.2b4 (very pleasant compile BTW - almost no warnings, nice code Timo!)...tweaked a config...had a few false starts... 1.2b4 seems to working quite nicely. Now...for my next magical trick... I would like to migrate from maildir to dbox. I've tried using the convert plugin, but it kept failing during the conversion. I should mention my paths:

dovecot 1.1.1 dbox public namespace problem
Hi @ll i have somthing like namespace public { separator = / prefix = "public/" location = dbox:/usr/local/virtual/%d/public inbox = no list = yes subscriptions = yes hidden = no } which works nice if i set location = maildir:/usr/local/virtual/%d/public %d expansion works right with maildir but if user mailboxes are on dbox with public namespace too, dovecot

dbox - how to awaken the monster
Hello people, Since the invention of this storage called dbox, I have never quite gotten round to understanding it, nor getting to use it. It seems so strange to me and I must ask a few stupid questions about it. I use the MTA to deliver mail to Maildir, either in ~/Maildir or /some/path/%d/%n/Maildir. It has always beat me how dbox comes into play under such circumstances. From the wiki, I see

Upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1, plus migration from Maildir to dbox
Ok - I gave up on trying to get CIFS to work - there's obviously stuff going on I don't understand. So - instead of trying to get a virtual server to work, I next tried a chroot. That worked...but imapsync error'ed out trying to handle one of my large mailboxes. I was trying to setup a "new" server, migrate all my mail over, verify everything worked - maybe even leave the

Remote storage
What options are available for remote storage, i.e. storage devices directly mounted on the machine running Dovecot? I've seen discussions of NFS usage - but my experiences with NFS in times past have been poor. CIFS has worked well for me for non-mail use - would this be suitable? Or is there another method I've not considered? -- Daniel

Moving Alternate Storage to another disk.
Hello, Dovecot 2.3.4_3 on FreeBSD 11.2. I am using mdbox Alternate Storage since about two years without any problems. However, the disk containing this storage is almost full and I have to move this data to another disk, probably zpool. Would it be okay to do the following? 1) Shut down dovecot (and mail server) so no new mail comes in. 2) Copy/move all files in ALT location to new disk,

Moving Alternate Storage to another disk.
Hi, if you have the new disk installed on the same server you can try: - mount new disk for example in /mnt/temp - rsync -vaWH all files + directories from the old to the new disk - stop dovecot so no changes will happen on disks - make a final rsync again -> should not take many time - umout the old disk - mount new disk to the original "alt-storage" path, so you don't have to

Dbox Upgrade Problem With MAILBOXDIR
Hi. Trying to upgrade from Dovecot 1.1.11 to 1.1.13 but having a problem with imap process segfaulting. Backtrace is below. I presume it's related to these MAILBOXDIR changes but the only documentation is the single line in the news for changing to ":MAILBOXDIR=mailboxes" when using dbox. Current configuration is "mail_location = dbox:~/Mail" so what exactly should be

Multi-dbox storage space
Hi, I originally picked mdbox because I had the impression from reading about it on the mailing list that it was more performant and that it would conserve disc space. But lately i found mailboxes have nearly double the storage as reported. I mean, IMAP QUOTA reports around 900MB for one account that has over 2GB when I inspect the mail location of the user using the linux command `du`

mdbox: Cannot create subfolder called "dbox-Mails" (2.0beta5)
I am trying out "mdbox" under Dovecot 2.0beta5. Looking in the "mailboxes" directory under the mdbox storage root ("~/dbox" in my case), I can see that the mail folders are mapped into filesystem directories. But Dovecot seems to put all the message list information ("dovecot.index.cache", "dovecot.index.log") for any given mail folder into a

To me, this seems a _very_ important feature, and I wonder if I am doing something wrong or if the feature (hardlink+sieve) simply does not exists. Hardlink+Sieve has never worked. The fix is a bit complicated. Here's my

(Single instance) attachment storage with single-dbox
Just a note to myself and whoever else cares, should be added to wiki once it has its own page about this: With single-dbox messages can be copied with hard linking. This means that there can be multiple files that point to the same attachment file. The attachment is now deleted only once the mail file's link count drops to zero, so this works fine.. ..until someone goes and starts manually
