Today's log - yum entries
Hi list, I have the following entries, below, in today's log file (for yesterday, 10th May). I don't run the automated yum-updated and didn't run a yum update yesterday, and no packages were installed. Obviously the entries are old. I was wondering if anyone could offer an explanation? Thanks, Ned --------------------- yum Begin ------------------------ Packages

Best RH/FC version for dvd rip?
Greetings: I'd like to bring up a CentOS-3.3 system to use for multi-media purposes. One of the packages I'm installing is dvdrip and all it's dependant packages (libdv, libdvdcss, libdvdread, avifile, & transcode). I'm hunting down the packages on freshrpms.net and I notice that there are packages available for FC1, FC2 & FC3. Question: Which FC version should I use

gimp - aalib
I want to use the aalib plugin to save some graphics out of gimp. But... I can't find it as an option in Gimp. I have both gimp and aalib installed on this computer. Is there some additional piece that I also need to install? -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Melville Sask ~ http://www.melvilletheatre.com

errors on multimedia guidance for x86_64
I have a fresh install of 5.4 x86_64 from a dvd .iso. All has worked well for several days, including kvm and WinXP running in a vm. Decided it was time to get the multimedia stuff up and running so I could listen to music CDs and watch DVD movies while working. I followed the guidance on the "Tips and Tricks" page for multimedia. Had no problem with the "priorities" or the

RPMforge mplayerplug-in seems to be locking up my sound device
Got home from vacation last night and ran yum update. Among other things installed was mplayerplug-in-3.25-1.el4.rf ... now any time I attempt to view CNN video, my sound device locks up -- I eventually end up having to kill firefox, and anything thereafter that attempts to access sound (such as system-config-soundcard) also ends up wedged. Previously this only happened sporadically and after

totem: something wrong with gstreamer-plugins-ugly
When running totem to play a move (e.g. mpeg-1 file), it fails with the message: "A MPEG-1 System Stream demuxer plugin is required to play this stream, but not installed." After reading docs and trying various things I've reduced the source of the problem to the package gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm # rpm --rebuilddb # rpm -q libdvdread libdvdread-4.1.3-1.el5 #

nspluginwrapper included in CentOS 5.2 fails completely
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I run CentOS 5.2 x86_64 on my workstation at home. Since 5.2 came out with nepluginwrapper bundled into it, none of my plugins work. I thought it was just a problem with the flash plugin, but neither the mplayerplug-in plugins nor the adobe acrobat reader plugin work, either. I have this problem both with the Seamonkey contributed 64-bit build

Seamonkey (with plugins) as Firefox replacement?
Hi, I'm running CentOS 5.1 with the GNOME desktop in all our public libraries around here. I start from a minimal install stripped down to the bones, install X11, GNOME, and then one application per task. I try to follow some best-of-the-breed logic, and my focus lies on robustness to avoid the Tamagotchi syndrome :o) Recently I've been rather disappointed with Mozilla Firefox, which

[C6] Some typical apps missing?
Hi everyone! :-) I just installed CentOS 6 on one of my desktop machines, and yum now tells me that some of my favorite apps are not present in any of the repositories I configured. To name a few: ktorrent, kile, krusader, pavucontrol, mplayerplug-in (or is it now gecko-mediaplayer), xine, xmms, and so on... All these apps were readily available for C5, and I used them happily. I am mostly
