1.1 master auth not expanding static userdb variables
Can dovecot-1.1 deliver work with static userdb? I'm currently running
dovecot-1.0.12 and postfix-2.4.6, with virtual users' maildirs all owned
by vmail and mail_location = maildir:/var/mail/%Lu. The following
definition of the dovecot transport in postfix/master.conf works fine with
dovecot-1.0:

Dovecot design-question
Hi everybody,
we're currently in the process of drafting our new mailserver-setup.
Instead of a single-server-setup we'd like to have two equal servers
behind a loadbalancer like LVS and shared mailhomes on NFS.
We'd like to use dovecot for POP/IMAP, dovecot-deliver as LDA.
- It's probably the best idea to direct SMTP and POP/IMAP always to
the same server behind the

Picasa vs. native photo management apps
Hi,
I'm running a small business (http://www.microlinux.fr) offering various
services around GNU/Linux, among which migrating folks from Windows to
Linux. On server and desktops, I'm using CentOS exclusively. I know,
Fedora would be more suitable, but I like the solidity of CentOS, and I
can always build the odd missing bits myself from Fedora SRPMS. My

Installation woes for rattle (and other packages)
Yesterday I wanted to try rattle on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. I had (and still have) it running
(though it complains on startup a bit -- I'll look into that later) on a different bootup
on the same machine with 8.04 Hardy.
I got an error that libglade cannot be found, and various attempts to get glade support
failed. I removed and reinstalled R -- same problem.

winbindd GETGRENT results in trusted domains environment
Good day.
1. We have configured two domain controllers on Windows 2003 R2. We
named them TEST.LOCAL and CHILD.TEST.LOCAL respectively and made a
trust relationships between them. 2. We have installed Samba 3.5.3 on
Ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-14 and configured it for using winbindd.
We have encountered a problem with results that winbind returns
upon a command GETGRENT. We

doveadm "-S <socket_path>" option enabled in 2.0.8?
I apologize if this is a stupid question but I just compiled 2.0.8 and am trying to use doveadm to get the quota for a user using the -S <socket_path> option because I have different options for the various local IPs that dovecot listens on.
For example, my default quota is filesystem (NFS rquota) and I can get that by doing:
doveadm quota get -u warden
which tells me:

help troubleshooting inconsistencies in back up sizes
Hello list,
I'll first describe my set up:
server1 : live server
server2 : backup
server3 : backup of the backup
so the data set is copied in this order
server1->server2->server3
they are not done at the same time so there would be no collisions.
I use this shell script to back up:

Samba + ADS - Filepermissions home directories
I configured winbind, samba and pam.d to authenticate via our Windows Active
Directory Server.
Everything works fine, I can log on to the system using my Windows Account
credentials, I am also able to access the samba home share, but I have no
write permissions there.
What I don't get is: When I give read-write-access to everybody (chmod 777
/home/%USER%), I am able to create and delete

Java install
While using Fedora, I always used java straight from Sun. What is
recommended for CentOS?? Getting jetty, java and other java apps working
correctly has been a real chore. If I used nothing but RPMs for CEntOS,
would I have a real working java install? I need some help on this one
badly. Ric
