service doveadm - how to debug proxying with director
Hello everyone,
I'm on a small dovecot director -> dovecot mailbox setup and I try to
get doveadm command proxying to work.
Though I don't get the expected output. My directors do not forward the
doveadm commands to the expected backend host.
Doveadm is working as expected on the backend hosts, the director hosts
just dont log anything about the proxying that should happen or

MAPI Properties?
I'm using Dovceot/IMAP on Linux and Outlook clients on WIN7 workstations. Mail
on Linux is stored in Maildir format.
I'm searching for where Outook keeps its information on color categories in
IMAP. According to Diane Poremsky at slipstick.com, "Outlook stores it in the
mapi properties of each message. If you use MFCMAPI to viuw the messages, you'll
see the properties."

imap quota makes the Alarm clock expire
Hello list,
I have a strange problem with dovecot and quota. The error message is
not obvious...
After a couple of seconds when I try to start dovceot, I get this:
root at taleira:~# /etc/init.d/dovecot start
Alarm clock
If I uncomment the "imap_quota and quota" in dovecot.conf everything
seem to work fine:
protocol imap {
listen = *:143
ssl_listen = *:993

can I set a mail server on my home Mac server, and, 'mirror' the real mail
server mailboxes so than I can have an offline mail archive for ever ?
I know very little about Macs, can I setup dovceot on Mac?

dovecot-SASL for Postfix: EXTERNAL does not work.
Hello and good evening.
Sorry for responding so late, it is midsummer and i spend as much
time as possible on the outside (bicycle, mostly). (Just one more
day, then 10 degrees colder!!)
I Cc: Wietse Venema, because i quote a message of him.

Dovecot Proxy
Hello everyone,
it's my first post here on this mailing list and I hope, I make it right.
I posted a question on
https://serverfault.com/questions/1031441/dovecot-as-proxy-with-submission
and nobody was able to answer it. So I decided to push that question
here (I'm talking about any new dovecot version and I've tested it with
2.3.4.1 (f79e8e7e4)).
I try to run a dovecot proxy

Denying authentication
Hello,
I've been running dovecot for over 3 years now and it works
with no problems. I have it setup so that it authenticates users against
Active Directory via LDAP and so far no problems.
What I would like to know is if there is any way that I
could deny access for users trying to access email via cellphones or email
clients outside the company. I can

Dovecot v2.0 wiki
I forked the wiki to
http://wiki1.dovecot.org/ is the old docs for v1.x
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/ is the new docs for v2.0
For now wiki.dovecot.org points to wiki1, but once v2.0 is released I'll
change it to point to wiki2. I symlinked the user directory, so users
should stay synced between the wikis.
The main reason for wiki2 is to be able to describe Dovecot v2.0's
actual behavior

Dovecot not processing through Sieve
Hello everyone,
I'm fairly new to Dovecot, but I've gotten the majority of things working
except for Sieve. I'm running Dovecot 1.2.9 coupled with Postfix and
SpamAssassin all with a virtual domains setup. I am receiving mail and it
is being processed by all the plugins that operate through Postfix. The
quota configured in Dovecot appears to be working because my mail client

Oldies but Goldies - Dovecot 1.2 and Sieve
Hi,
we still run dovecot 1.2.17 and upgrading is not planed for some time.
But I'm asked to install a sieve system to be used with SOGo soon.
What do I have to install / configure?
Is installing/configuring the dovecot-sieve-0.1.19 and
dovecot-managesieve-0.11.13 enough?
We still use mostly the default settings for imaps/pop3s.
And of course configure SOGo.
Thanks for any feedback.

imap, imaps, ports; config for secure-only service
Hello, having difficulty setting up a 'secure-only' service on a
non-standard port.
Objective is to open a secure Dovecot service on an internet-visible
port, while also using an insecure service for hosts on an internal
network (so that one particular client which is not SSL/TLS-capable
can continue to use the service).
Checking wiki1 and wiki2, I think that port 143 can be used for a

question about snarf plugin in dovecot 2
I'm trying to get the snarf plugin working with dovecot 2.0.7.
Specifically, I want to use the UW-IMAP style optional snarfing.
I'm looking at the wiki2 documentation. The first question is whether
the UW-IMAP optional snarfing will require any changes to the
mail_location. The first section suggests (but doesn't specifically
state, which I'd propose be clarified) that

dovecot with different POP3S / IMAPS Certs
Hi,
I'm new to dovecot, but actually planning to switch a wide WU-IMAP/POP
installation to dovecot.
With WU-IMAP, a different certificate can be used by pop3s and imaps,
allowing both server to be reachable through different hostnames, without
SSL complaints on the client side; this is mostly used for scalability.
I'm trying to do the same thing with dovecot; that is having dovecot
using

run POP3S + IMAPS simultaneously?
a quick one:
is it possible to run POP3S and IMAPS services through dovecot at the
same time? would i just uncomment both "login = imap" and "login = pop3"
in /etc/dovecot.conf? or can i only run one at a time?
apologies if the answer is obvious, i'm just still trying to wrap my
head around all of this.
thanks,

Require different setting for mail_location for each of POP3S and IMAPS protocols
Okay,
Let's try this a different way.
I've been able to configure past dovecot to have a different
mail_location setting for the same user, but with different protocols.
When the user requests POP3S, I adjusted the mail_location to
/var/mail/$USER (with mbox in use).
When that *same* user requested IMAPS protocol, the required
mail_location is the Maildir folder.
This allows for

pop3s fails, imaps works great
hey all-
i'm running dovecot-0.99.10p2 on OpenBSD 3.4-snapshot (installed from
ports). i have had 0 problems with imaps -- it's been running like a
charm! however, i'm trying to get pop3s set up for some of my users, but
i can't seem to connect from ANY client.
in /etc/dovecot.conf, i've got:
protocols = imaps pop3s
and i've also got pop3s_listen set up with the
