hostname in director_mail_servers setting
director_mail_servers setting uses IP Adresses as values https://doc.dovecot.org/settings/core/#core_setting-director_mail_servers As described in the documentation, hostnames are converted to addresses when the configuration is read https://doc.dovecot.org/settings/types/#ip-addresses This is acceptable in host or virtual machine environment, but becomes a problem in a containerized environment.

director ignoring director_mail_servers for lmtp connections
Hello, Following Jan-Frode's advise I am trying this configuration: {postfix} ---lmtp---> {director} ---lmtp---> {dovecot} so I have two dovecot instances for director/proxy and lmtp delivery on ports 1024 and 24 respectively. whilst for imap connections I can specify a pool of imap backend servers via 'director_mail_servers' it seems is not possible with lmtp. adding servers to director_mail_servers
Is there a specific order in which one has to add servers to director_mail_servers, Let's say I have 20 loadbalanced director servers (I dont, but for arguments sake). I want to add 5 servers to director_mail_servers. If I do this by restarting each director server 1 by 1 with an updated conf, it seems the 5 new servers dont get added. Or at least I dont get what makes it work eventually.

Eronious comment in sample Director configuration
The sample Director configuration (10-director.conf) says that director_servers and director_mail_servers can be lists of either IPs or hostnames: # List of IPs or hostnames to all director servers, including ourself. # Ports can be specified as ip:port. The default port is the same as # what director service's inet_listener is using. #director_servers = # List of IPs or hostnames to all

'director_tag' field returned from passdb lookup results in 'unknown passdb extra field'
Hello all, I'm working with director in tandem with 'director_tags' to group some backend hosts. I've assigned the groups to the hosts by appending a '@' character after the IP address of a backend host under director_mail_servers: ... director_mail_servers = 192.168.0.1 at foo 192.168.0.2 at bar 192.168.0.3 at foobar ... I can confirm that the backend hosts

Ring SYNC appears to have got lost, resending after upgrade
Hi @all, on Saturday I upgraded two dovecot servers from squeeze to wheezy and dovecot from 2.1.x to 2.2.5 (compiled from sources). After the upgrade everything worked fine at first. On Sunday Morning I recognized these errors (they occured after a reload for logging purpose on midnight) on one server: director: Error: Ring SYNC appears to have got lost, resending After reloading/restarting

Getting Director Proxy Working
Hi All, I can't get directory proxying of pop3 and imap working.? The director stuff appears to be OK - see below.?? The ldap authentication is working on the backend mail server.? I just get connection refused when I telnet to the proxy on the pop3 and imap ports.? Nothing appears to be running on the pop3 and imap ports despite the lines in the config below.? I am not sure what to do from

TLS communication director -> backend with X.509 cert checks?
Timo Sirainen <tss at iki.fi> (Di 13 Okt 2015 21:02:59 CEST): > > the IP address the director connects to. > > Right. The hostnames are lost immediately at director startup. I've never really thought about needing this functionality for director, since they're usually in the same trusted network with backends.. > Ooo. What if director_mail_servers =

No failover from director to backend?
Hi everyone, short version: Is there no built in failover mechanism for the director service to handle a backend failure? Long version: I have a frontend server running the director service and two backends. Due to maintenance I had to shut down one of the backends which caused connection errors for the users being directed to this backend. I was very surprised as I expected the director to

First time setting up Director Woes
I'm trying to setup our first director server. Trying to keep the initial config simple really as just maybe a proof of concept and its got me pulling my hair out today. Initially I just tried to convert one of my already running IMAP servers to be a director just to see if I could do it. I modified the configs as it appeared they needed based on: https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Director

Hello, are you using systemd? May be you have to edit unit-file for dovecotservice and increase filelimit LimitNOFILE=infinity Hajo Am 23.08.2017 um 14:21 schrieb Patrick Westenberg: > I haven't done this on the old, working machine. > > So there must be a difference between Debian 7 and 9 how open files are > handled? > > Regards > Patrick > > > > Aki

connection to director (lmtp) time out
Hi all, I'm running two directors with lmtp proxy as relay transport for my mail exchangers. relay_transport = lmtp:inet:dovecot-directors.example.net dovecot-directors.example.net resolves to 172.17.1.3 and 172.17.1.4 Now, .3 is down and Postfix tries to deliver it to .4 but this connection gets a timeout: (delivery temporarily suspended: connect to 172.17.1.4[172.17.1.4]:24: Connection

Trying to get Dovecot Director Proxying working
Hi All, Firstly, thanks for all the really helpful responses to my previous questions "Architecture for large Dovecot cluster" and "Sizing MTA servers". I am now trying to get a Dovecot director proxy working with a single backend mail server. When I try to connect to the dovecot proxy on the pop3 and imap ports I get connection refused. I want the authentication to

Connection queue full on my directors
I finally upgraded to v1.2.16 on my backend servers, with ldap instead of previously mysql, and put a couple of dovecot v2.0.8 directors in front of them (used haproxy previously). It seemed to work OK initially, but after a few hours we got bit by "Connection queue full" problems on the directors. So I now set default_process_limit=512 and also: service anvil {

Using userdb/passdb data in director_username_hash
TL;DR: Can director_username_hash use %{userdb:...} or %{passdb:...} ? ==================================== This is on Ubuntu Precise, running dovecot 2.2.36. It's a fully production, director-ized env, so assume everything is working correctly. Happy to post doveconf if it's relevant but wanted to ask a general question first. I was curious if there's a way to get userdb/passdb
