Hierarchy separator recommendation?

disadvantages could be:
- shared folders with dots in user names
- if you want to use dots in folder names
Whenever possible I use '/'.
Kind regards,

Hierarchy separator recommendation?
The dot '.' will work, but I suggest to follow documentation here:
https://wiki1.dovecot.org/Namespaces,
And it says:
A commonly used separator is '/'. It probably causes the least amount of
trouble with different IMAP clients
And I already had problems using '.' as a namespace separator.

Need help in understanding auth digest-md5 and realm
Hello dovecot community,
I've setup dovecot and need a bit help in understanding the auth
mechanism digest-md5 and realm
in 10-auth.conf I got
auth_mechanisms = plain login digest-md5 cram-md5 apop
#auth_realms =
#auth_default_realm =
So i got empty realms.
Auth normally works fine and clients can auth with mechanism digest-md5
and I see the following log entries:
dovecot: auth: Debug:

Simple backup of maildir folder
Hi,
I want to do a simple backup of my maildir. I read here that maildirlock
is not to count on in the future and the recommended option was to use
doveadm backup. However, it seems that this requires to setup another
dovecot server.
My questions are:
- How much to I need to configure this new server? Do I need to setup
user by user, or even install postfix (that's where my users are

Hierarchy separator recommendation?
Dear dovecot list,
I'm using Maildir as mailbox format.
Is there any recommendation for the namespace hierarchy separator?
Currently I didn't set any. So it is the default of dot '.'
I'm switiching from a rather unknown IMAP Server called DBMail
(http://www.dbmail.org/)
Planning to synchronize the mailboxes via imapsync
(https://github.com/imapsync/imapsync)
Is there

Thanks for the suggestion!
I am using Postfix as the relay host behind dovecot-submissiond.
Unfortunately, unless I'm missing something, submissiond does not

submission message quota
Hello,
I am trying to come up with a way to have individual quotas per user for
the submission service. Similar to what I could achieve with Postfix and
policyd.
More specifically, the quota I am most interested in, is limiting the
number of messages a single account can send within a given timeframe.
Ideally, I'd also like to limit the number of total recipients within a
given timeframe, to

"Decent" sub-$100 SIP phone.
Hey, all. I quoted a customer about $100 for some cheap SIP phones. I
was planning on using the BT-102's, but he called said they look like
"Princess phones," and I have to admit that he has a point. Some of the
other inexpensive phones look decent, but (for example) the SPA-841's
wiki entry says the remote end gets a lot of static. Since it'll be

installing an add-on package
Dear all,
my apologies if I am posting a silly question - but I couldn't find any
helpful information on this elswhere.
In the R FAQ, version 1.8-1, there is a section "5.2 How can add-on
packages be installed?", but it only gives information for Unix users.
How can I install an add-on package under Windows? (Specifically, I have
downloaded the "rmeta" package from CRAN.)

dovecot-lda quota warning email add BCC
Dear dovecot users,
I have setup doveot with quota warning.
Once a quota wearning is reached a shell script is called which then
sends an email to the user via dovecot LDA
this is the command in the shell script:
/usr/lib/dovecot/dovecot-lda -d $USER -o "plugin/quota=dict:User
quota::noenforcing:proxy::quota"
I already have looked in the docs: https://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA

How can I make these command prompt settings into universal settings?
I've got it so that I can enable Japanese input into an application by
typing the following at a command prompt (with FireFox, for example):
[dave at localhost ~]$ kinput2 -canna &
[1] 10631
[dave at localhost ~]$ XMODIFIERS='@im=kinput2' LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.utf8 firefox
However, I would rather not have to type in all that craziness each time
I want to start an application. Further,

Evaluating R expressions from C
I am currently puzzled by a passage in the R Extensions manual, section 5.10:
SEXP lapply(SEXP list, SEXP expr, SEXP rho)
{
R_len_t i, n = length(list);
SEXP ans;
if(!isNewList(list)) error("`list' must be a list");
if(!isEnvironment(rho)) error("`rho' should be an environment");
PROTECT(ans = allocVector(VECSXP, n));
