What I do: 1 - I ran a maildirlock command to my mail folder 2 - I then rsync the folder where my maildirs are, as well as the indexes, to a remote location 3 - I tar.gz the daily backup 4 - I kill the maildirlock process I also use replication of my server so that I keep getting mail when my main server isn't available. As for postfix, I backup the database once a week, since it

Strategy for fts and Replication
Hi there, I got successfully to replicate my mail server to another dovecot install using dsync, mainly for redundancy, and it works great. I want to try to install fts, as some of the mailboxes have tens of thousands of messages, and it takes minutes to get some results when searching via IMAP on a Roundcube interface. I want to experiment with fts-solr first, and firstly on my redundant

Simple backup of maildir folder
Hi, I want to do a simple backup of my maildir. I read here that maildirlock is not to count on in the future and the recommended option was to use doveadm backup. However, it seems that this requires to setup another dovecot server. My questions are: - How much to I need to configure this new server? Do I need to setup user by user, or even install postfix (that's where my users are

maildirlock time unit?
What is the time unit maildirlock will accept? I've tried 20s, 20 sec, 20 secs, 20 seconds, all results in: Fatal: Invalid timeout value: 20s And if you don't specify time unit you just get: Panic: BUG: No IOs or timeouts set. Not waiting for infinity. This is on 2.3.3. 2.2 worked fine without needing time unit specified. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment

[EXT] Re: max number of connections per ip
You can usually see from doveadm who or logs if your router/whatever is doing NAT. Which would be the reason why 500 connections wouldn't be enough. Binary locations
Where do you think the following binaries should be installed to? The possible locations are: - bin/ - sbin/ - libexec/dovecot/ (or lib/dovecot/ in most Linux distros) So the binaries are: 1) These probably belong to bin/ or sbin/ or both: - authtest - dovecotpw - doveadm 2) Binaries that you might want to call from mail_executable setting: - rawlog - gdbhelper 3) Index file dumping

compression script for use with zlib module
Hi, I'm wondering if someone already implemented a compression script (and would like to share it) based on the step-by-step provided on wiki page of Zlib module. I can already do some find|xargs gzip .... but couldnt implement it completly as described on the wiki page. I know the suggested step-by-step is very detailed and probably a must simplier will be enough for almost

ip rule nat
when doing somehitng like ip rule add fwmark 3 nat 200.42.75.183 table ppp0 prio 1 (the idea is that packets that match the fwmark 3 change their source address to 200.42.75.183)..it first apply the nat and then routes to table ppp0 right? in such case the, nat, why may be nat not being applyed? cause it doesnt work at all..it goes to that interface but does not nat the src address of the package.

dovecot ssl error message from my own connections
Hello all, Just a minor thing. Not a big deal, because everything works fine, and I feel secure with my setup. But, I get this error message pretty much throughout the day/night, which appears to come from my own mail clients (desktop or mobile). I would like to resolve it, because it must me something (that is not good--that I may not understand), that may have other ramifications. So, here it
