Current thinking on backups ?
Hi,
What are people doing for backups ?
My current process is LVM snapshot and backup from that to NFS share.
But there seems to be hints around the internet that people use/abuse "doveadm backup" for backup purposes even though it seems its original intention was for transferring mailboxes between dovecot instances.
Assuming its ok to "doveadm backup" to an NFS share, is it

Email Server Backup Strategy
Hello,
Was thinking it would be wise to backup my server, in case anything
"bad" ever happened, so that I could quickly get up to speed.
1. clone the whole drive -- which might be the best to ensure I keep the
whole system working.
2. But, what about, if I just wanted to backup my Email server
components? Postfix - which I think is just config files, and Dovecot -
I think there is a

Current thinking on backups ?
I run a pair of dovecot servers for personal small domains with several
layers of backup in place ...
- The two dovecot servers replicate to each via a Tinc vpn mesh. That
gives email resiliency.
- All mail is replicated via offlineimap to a 3rd server over that Tinc
vpn. It's on the mesh, it has space, so why not ?
- All mail is replicated as well as via mbsync to a zfs dataset on my

Sorry for this inconvenience.
I will try it tomorrow.

dhcpd proxy and/or windows autoupdates
At one of our sites we have most outgoing ports blocked and everyone
going through squid for web access. But it seems Windows autoupdate
doesn't pick up the local users proxy settings so we ended up opening
port 80 to some of the windows update servers.
While searching around I found and option called custom-proxy-server
but I don't see that setting in the man pages. Anyone have

more cleanup: mis-named AD user
The saga around the misnamed DC seems over, so let's open a new thread ;-)
In the same AD I see this:
in smbstatus I see a smbd-PID for a Username "root", Group "root"
But the actual user logged in is another one. So I assume there has been
some wrong mapping/naming in the past.
I don't think that user actually runs with root-privileges or so ...
it's just ugly

[LLVMdev] Proposal: Splitting up MC/ELF + AsmPrinter Hierarchy?
Hi everyone,
I am in the process of adding some new code for th ARM/MC ELF
emission, but noticed a curious linkage between th AsmPrinter and the
MC.
It looks like the MC code (on X86 at least) calls out to the
(misnamed?) AsmPrinter to dump out ELF bits (in X86AsmPrinter.cpp) in
the same routine, using conditional branching....
As JimG and I are working both on ARM emission stuff, I want to

DOS clients problem with 3.6.22 vs 3.6.18
I have tried to upgrade our samba server from 3.6.18 to 3.6.22 but found
that our DOS clients could no longer connect (using DOS 6.22 and
Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1).
With 3.6.18 we use smb.conf setting 'min protocol = LANMAN2' and it
works great, with 3.6.22 although clients can connect ok, they cannot
obtain a directory listing. Instead the first file (sometimes misnamed)

Hello, I was re-generating the moduli for SSH, and during that process I noticed that, when running the following command:
ssh-keygen -M screen -O prime-tests=600 -O generator=3 -f moduli-2048-01.candidates moduli-2048-01c
It does not produce any errors, only the following:

Samba BIND9_DLZ autoupdate PTR
Hello,
I have installed Samba 4 AD with bind9_dlz and automatic update.
Is this only working for A records?
The PTR is not updated, or my setup is not complete.
Where should I include /var/lib/samba/private/named.conf.update ??
Include this in /etc/bind/named.conf is no allowed. (unknown

spreadsheet-style autoupdating
Dear all,
I am curious whether one can automatically update, say, a column in R,
similar to how spreadsheets (Excel, etc.) do?
In my specific case I have two columns with logical data, which
individually convey different information, although ultimately for a
common purpose (flagging for removal). I would thus need a third
logical variable that would take TRUE if any of the prev. columns take

upsd flapping in the breeze
Hi,
I have had a long standing problem with NUT talking to 110V MGE UPSs on
FreeBSD, I was recently investigating again and noticed that upsd seems
overly noisy, eg..
May 5 03:50:36 egbert upsd[96662]: UPS [ups1] data is no longer stale
May 5 03:50:36 egbert upsd[96662]: Data for UPS [ups1] is stale - check driver

Samba BIND9_DLZ autoupdate PTR
I have set this option to yes.
I think the problem is on an other place. The DHCP server is not the DNS
Server. And I don't know how does the dhcp inform the dns server.
I a classic setup without DLZ somethink like the following is working well.
zone "example.com" in {
...
include "/etc/bind/update-policy";
}
zone "30.168.192.in-addr.arpa." {

Convert plugin
Hi,
I'm trying to convert users from a sendmail server to a postfix/dovecot
server. All works fine but one of the last things is to rescue the
messages in /var/mail/<user> on the old server. This seems very
straitforward using the convert plugin but with the settings from the
wiki, nothing happens when the user logs in. Do I need a private
namespace for this as suggested elsewhere
