How does dovecot determine users from /etc/passwd?
We're using dovecot on a help desk ticketing system. The system
doesn't perform any cleanup of IMAP mailboxes so we have a regular
cronjob doing this:
/usr/bin/doveadm flags add -A '\Deleted' SEEN SENTBEFORE 12w &&
/usr/bin/doveadm expunge -A DELETED MAILBOX '*'
Recently, doveadm has been reporting this:
doveadm(nobody): Error: User initialization failed:

Getting autoexpunge to work
dovecot 2.2.33.2 (d6601f4ec) on Ubuntu 18.04
The recent announcement that expunge is going to be deprecated and
that autoexpunge should be used instead reminded me that my recent
switch over to autoexpunge is not working.
There has been an active discussion today about getting expunge
working so I thought I'd use the commands suggested there to figure
out why autoexpunge might not be doing

UNSEEN flag issues with multiple clients
Hi all,
I've been bugged by this issue for a while, and while I see that the
\UNSEEN flag is specified in the RFC to be reset once *any* client
connects and looks at a mailbox, I was wondering if there's a way to
change the behavior so that it's tracked on a per-client basis?
Or if there's even some way to turn it off so that both my iPhone mail
client and my main emacs viewmail

or, since you already use doveadm, tell dovecot to index your mailbox
manually before your 'doveadm status' command:
doveadm -v index -q -u local-it-support INBOX

It seems to be broken.
I have
namespace inbox {
inbox = yes
location =
mailbox Drafts {
special_use = \Drafts
}
mailbox Junk {
autoexpunge = 14 days
auto = subscribe
special_use = \Junk
}

}

OpenSMTPD and Dovecot run on the same machine. OpenSMTPD receives

Unseen messages question
Hi list,
this question is related to the IMAP protocol itself, not really to
Dovecot.
I'm trying to understand what is the more efficient way to maintain the
number of unseen messages of the currently selected mailbox. RFC3501 says a
client must not issue a STATUS command to the selected mailbox and that
information sent by a SELECT is enough.
My current idea follows these steps :

If you insist that it is the expected output, then we have a bug in
all linux distributions. All of them!
For example this is latest fedora:
[kasak at kasakoff ~]$ smbclient -N -L localhost

print$ Disk Printer Drivers
share Disk

strange behaviour with seen/unseen messages in virtual folders.
Hi,
I've a virtual folder that contains unseen messages. When I mark the
message and expunge the folder, the message should disappear. This works
as expected in alpine. Alpine uses the following commands:
06000010 STORE 1 +Flags (\SEEN)
06000020 EXPUNGE
Using roundcube mail, the message wont disappear, when I perform the same
steps. RoundCube Mails sends:
flg UID STORE 445 +FLAGS
