No, it is saslauthd. Check the documention and see the "-r" parameter of
saslauthd.

outlook idiocy - IMAP folders with /
user attempts to create folders with /
dovecot naturally cannot create it so it returns error but outlook of
course "create" it and keep data in local store only. data is lost when
you remove local store .pst file.
The question is - can dovecot be configured so it will automatically
replace slash in name with something else?

dovecot sasl support
i've tried to replace saslauthd with dovecot sasl service
stopped saslauthd daemon and added
service auth {
unix_listener /var/run/saslauthd/mux {
mode = 0660
user = root
group = mail
}
}
so it will listen on the same socket.
the effect with sendmail is as below
Mar 23 21:23:29 <2.3> puchar dovecot: auth: Error: Authentication client
not compatible with this server (mixed

outlook idiocy - IMAP folders with /
I tell users to limit the folder characters to /0-9a-zA-Z_/, because anything else may upset a mail client or server.
As I have no control over their minds, hands, and client software, I wish I could enforce the policy from the server, returning an error message to the client.
On its turn, this requires the client to listen to such server messages, operated by a smarter user.

Howto add another disk storage
Hi all
What is the best strategy to add another storage to an existing virtual
mail system ?
Move some domains to the new storage and create symlinks ?
Switch to dovecot hashing ? But in this case what is the easy-east way
to migrate ?
Thanks for any suggestions or tips !

I think we need a public compliance test, similar to html and ssl, then people would start questioning the quality of their own client, and migrate to better ones. When Micro$oft will eventually feel the pinch, then they will start fixing their $hit. People have the power! (I like that song.)

saslauthd/dovecot/root
Hi,
I am using SMTP-AUTH over TLS with sendmail, to allow remote users to
authenticate and send mail via my server, and this uses saslauthd to
authenticate users.
I have set up saslauthd with the "MECH=rimap" mechanism, so it uses the
local IMAP server, Dovecot, for authentication.
I want to do this because Dovecot is set up to use /etc/passwd for user
credentials (so I don't

Dovecot proxy and Postfix SASL
Can somebody please verify that currently (v 2.2.9) SMTP AUTH using SASL
from Postfix with Dovecot proxy is still not supported as discussed in
these threads
(especially the first one)?

As I understand it is possible to use saslauthd to do this by using the

pam and sasl2-sample-server failure
I'm setting up a postfix server using "The Book of Postfix". In ch 15
there is a section on testing saslauthd which I can't get to work. I
can get it to work using shadow password authentication, but it fails
on pam. I don't kow squat about troubleshooting pam. Any PAM wizzes
out there that can help? I saw a unrelated post talking about
something needing to be in the pam

[OT] Postfix sasl authentication help
Dear all,
Would need some of your advise.
As I was the trying to get postfix sasl working with samba AD.
I've try to search online for a few examples some use ldap, kerberos or pam.
I'm using winbind on that system and I wonder if we can use winbind with sasl.
Or anyone have a more correct on how it should be done.
My existing setup was working with ldap before moving to samba4.

works fine. almost ;)
Why authenticating over imap takes so slow?
my saslauthd runs like that
/usr/local/sbin/saslauthd -a rimap -O 127.0.0.1 -n 0 -r
imap

dovecot 2 low TCP speed (fetching big mail)
i use dovecot 2 under FreeBSD (dovecot2-2.2.15 compiled from ports).
tried both with kqueue enabled or not.
everything works very fast, EXCEPT fetching big mail.
tried multiple clients (thunderbird on windows, alpine on the same server,
alpine on other unix server connected by 1Gb/s LAN) and fetching peaks at
1MB/s. NO SSL!
could you please point me where to search for a problem.

Dovecot using authsasld
Hi,
Trying to simplify the postfix/dovecot/saslauthd setup with less than 10
users, I was looking for some way to NOT duplicate the username/password
setup.
Currently I need to use a seperate file for dovecot as I do for saslauthd.
(One is a simple shadow-alike file, the other the sasldb)
I know that postfix 2.3 can use dovecot directly for sasl authentication,
and that would be a neat

Postfix-TLS/SASL-rimap
Will Dovecot support the Cyrus SASL library rimap mechanism? If so, is
there anything I need to enable/verify for it to work?
And is there another tool to verify proper behaviour besides trying to
log in with a client?
