Lightweight LMTP daemon to avoid overkill MTA
I ended up 'hacking' LMTP support into the external spam filter. Someone else already contributed 'real' patches to implement LMTP support, so once I go live with this mail platform it should be stable.

Local lmtp proxy on backend server
Hi Aki, you have some ingenious remark that could help?

I am staring constantly at the same logs, this is what I get from
dovecot[1]. Sendmail[2] is sending with test at svr1 maybe this overrides
lmtp proxying? This is a test with a special-userdb passwd-file also
having host=svr2

Lightweight LMTP daemon to avoid overkill MTA
Hi,
I was unclear in my question. The spam filter is only able to deliver mail over SMTP, not over LMTP.. So I would still need some kind of daemon that listens for SMTP and then offers incoming email to Dovecot's LMTP socket.

Yes I am running sendmail next to dovecot on backend servers. That works
ok. I have some problems with re-routing mail in a proxy setup.

Local lmtp proxy on backend server
I added this:
passdb {
driver = passwd
skip = authenticated
}
Which enables indeed local delivery, I also noticed this. Maybe the
password field check shoud not be done, when you enable skip
authentication?

Hi Aki,
If I adapt this configuration on svr1 like this[0], should the mail not
be delivered at svr2

Problem switching from LDA to LMTP (with Postfix)
Hello,
I am trying to switch from LDA to LMTP on a Postfix/Dovecot setup, but
something is going wrong.
I have followed the directions at:
https://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/PostfixDovecotLMTP
Here is a session from dovecot.log:

Local lmtp proxy on backend server
I receive a local mail when I do a 'mail test' on a backend svr1 with
this[0] configuration. However when I just add only one configuration
change 'lmtp_proxy = yes' I am getting these errors[1]. I would expect
this email to still be delivered locally, should this be working or do I
misunderstand the lmtp proxy functionality?

Postfix + LMTP with virtual users: how to strip domain from LMTP RCPT TO
Hi,
I am trying to set up my own mail server (to get off Google) and I have a
problem with mail delivery. I'm using Postfix as a SMTP front-end, and use
the LMTP server included in dovecot to receive mail from postfix.
I have a setup which works with the dovecot LDA, it involves calling
dovecot-lda with the -d flag. Postfix computes the username by removing

I am preparing to convert my main client's postfix_courier-imap setup to
dovecot 2.1, which currently just uses the postfix virtual delivery agent...
Does anyone know if the use of LMTP

How to configure sendmail using dovecot lmtp
Hi,
I can't seems to find any posting on how to configure sendmail to use
dovecot as lmtp. All I see is using it as LDA. I am particularly interested
on how to tell sendmail to ask dovecot to deliver the message to the user.
In the wiki for lda it says to add the following in the sendmail config:

LMTP: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender: User doesn't exist! :-(
:-)
I'm using postfix for mail delivery and dovecot for mailbox access imaps
pop3s.
Postfix resolves, verifies and overwrites users' addresses by numerous
subtle LDAP queries. However users are visible as local ones (openldap,
pam, nss) in the sense I can run `id' or `finger' queries and receive
replies.
Dovecot handles all mailboxes over imap/pop correctly with no

Local lmtp proxy on backend server
Hi Aki,
I also tried with changing the original ldap source to svr2. Although
everywhere svr2 is configured, still mails keep being delivered locally
on svr1. Do I need to configure more than 20-lmtp.conf?
[@svr1 conf.d]# cat 20-lmtp.conf | grep -v '^#'
