Samba -> WinXP: slow transfers, partial solution
Hello All,
I'm running Samba 3.0.24 as PDC and file server on Gentoo Linux,
AMD64, 2.6.19 kernel, 100MBit/s network, and experience quite slow
file transfers from Samba to WinXP SP2 clients: the speed is varying,
but is about 1-2Mb/s at best.
I spent quite some time investigating the issue, here are the
intermediate results:
1) This happens only when transferring _from_ _Samba_ to

Questions regarding quota
Hi,
I have some trouble trying to test the quota plugin.
First off all, it says in the wiki: "Dovecot 1.0 supports quota using a
quota plugin. It's currently discussed in Dovecot LDA page and it
supports only very simple quota calculation which is suitable only for
mboxes. Maildir++ quota support will come later."
Does that mean that it won't work at all with Maildir++, or

SCP v. SFTP
I was comparing some traces from SCP and SFTP when transferring the same
file 200MB file between the same host pairs. Even when I put SFTP in
batch mode I noticed that I saw 403208 bytes from the receiver in
comparison to 3368 bytes with SCP. I've attached the relevant output
from tcptrace below (the b->a column is the return side of the trace).
Mostly I'm just curious as to what

rquota didnot show userquota (Solaris 10)
Hi,
we have a new fileserver running on X4275 hardware with Solaris 10U8.
On this fileserver we created one test dir with quota and mounted these
on another Solaris 10 system. Here the quota command didnot show the
used quota. Does this feature only work with OpenSolaris or is it
intended to work on Solaris 10?
Here what we did on the server:
# zfs create -o mountpoint=/export/home2

packets with syn/fin vs pf_norm.c
Hi,
First of all, I know that not dropping SYN/FIN isn't really a big deal, it
just makes no sense. But since it doesn't make any sense, I don't see
the reason why not to discard them.
I'm running pf on FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE-p3 and I scrub any traffic. I've
read some other posts on google and as far as I can tell, clearly invalid
packets (like packets with SYN/RST set) is

Cingular/ATT killing my IMAP/POP connections with bad TCP FIN packets?
Hello all,
I've got an issue I'm almost positive is not related to Dovecot, but was
wondering whether anyone else has had similar problems or could
duplicate my results. Please accept my apologies if this is considered
off-topic or this issue is actually just a symptom of my own ignorance.
Also, sorry for how long this email got, I knew I wouldn't be able to

Quota: Maildir and other files
Hi everybody,
I'm currently working on the quota limits in dovecot, and Maildir
quota is working fine, it reports the correct numbers.
But our users also have additional space where they can put files, and
I would like both to have the same quota of 2 GB. So mails + files
should not exceed 2 GB.
What is the best way to solve this?
I already tried the following:
- I put the files in

Simple way to get mailbox size by folder.
Is there a simple way to get each mailbox size using dovecot's IMAP
interface? The GETQUOTAROOT and GETQUOTA seems to work with the full
maildir size and not the individual folders.
I am finding a simple way for the webmail client to show usage of each
folder.
Thanks

Separate quotas not displayed correctly
Hello all,
My system is set up to have quotas both on /var/mail, where emails are
received, and on /export/home, where users' homedirs are.
But the client (Thunderbird) shows the same /export/home values both for
the Inbox and for the folders in the homedir, so a user cannot know
where she stands on her /var/mail use.
This is Dovecot 1.1.5. As per the wiki, the dovecot.conf file contains

Lost packets and strange "behaviour" of my TC rules
Hi all.
I''m going on my 3rd week trying to get a simple traffic shapping to work the right way :( !!
My goal it to shape the traffic coming from one machine (pc1) to another machine (pc2) throught the "eth0" interface. My test configuration is as follows:

Par arguments and pin and fin
Hi R Gurus,
I want to change the size and shape of the plot region, but cannot work out
how to use the arguments pin and fin in the par() function e.g. :
par(lwd=1.5, font=1, mfrow=c(2,1), pty="m", plt=c(.1,.9, 0.1,.9),
mar=c(1,4,0.1,0.1)
pin=c(6,12))
this gives me a syntax error associated with pin. How should I be using
these arguments?
Thanks,

Problems with stereo data
Hi all,
I have a problem when I am encoding (or decoding) stereo audio.
With mono data, things are fine and everything works without any problems.
When I try to decode stereo data, all I get is a static sound - similar to that of a radio not tuned to any specific station. I wonder what might be wrong?
Below is the code, first, of the encoder and next that of the decoder. Any information or

[CENTOS ]IPTABLES - How Secure & Best Practice
Ned,
Thank you very much for the response.
Great example following through on the premise.
It sounds like I need to have a better understanding of the traffic
patterns on my network to know the optimal order for iptables
filtering rules.
My brief example -
Premise: I want to limit outsiders from interfering with LAN client machines.
So, I have the following rules regarding forwarding traffic:
