After switching on Virtual Plugin and configuring it as specified on https://doc.dovecot.org/configuration_manual/virtual_plugin/ the virtual folder is created for each user. Unfortunately, they've implemented server-side searching only via MULTISEARCH - for reasons passing my understanding.
