distributed mdbox
Anyone know how to setup dovecot with mdbox so that it can be used through
shared storage from multiple hosts? I've setup a gluster volume and am
sharing it between 2 test clients. I'm using postfix/dovecot LDA for
delivery and I'm using postal to send mail between 40 users. In doing
this, I'm seeing these errors in the logs

MDBOX DSYNC error: Broken physical size in mailbox
Hi All,
I currently have a small Dovecot server (Server A) and I've installed a
second dovecot mailbox server (server B) and am trying to sync mailboxes
from Server A to Server B.
Both servers sit behind two dovecot directors on separate hosts and have
identical config files (doveconf -n output below). Mailboxes on Server A
are on an NFS mount.
Server A has been working fine with no

Version controlled (git) Maildir generated by Dovecot
Thank you Vitalii.
Could you please tell me / do you know if those dovecot* files have to be also backed / archived?
Kind regards,
Adam

mdbox index directories: bug?
Hi,
I'm using mdbox now (Dovecot 2.2.4), with indexes on a
separate disk. Works fine, but the directories for indexes are also
present in the storage folder, and are empty. Userdb (sql) returns this:
home /var/vmail/domains/somedomain/someuser
mail
mdbox:~/mdbox:INDEX=/mnt/spool/dovecot/index/somedomain/s/someuser
And
the created directory structure is:

Converting mdbox to mbox/MailDir
I saw that before but there is only maildir -> mdbox but not mdbox -> maildir
Did I have missed anything there?

Mdbox corruption
Hi,
I have a "ubuntu10.04 + ext4-filesystem + dovecot-2.0.13 +mdbox"
configuration in my server. It works fine with ~50k accounts.
Recently happened a filesystem corruption in a device of StMailLocation
and I fix with fsck.ext4.
After this crash, one account began to show access timeout and errors
like this on force-resync:
# doveadm force-resync -u account INBOX

Maildir to mdbox conersion size issue
Hello,
I have issue with dovecot 2.2.13
I want to change all Maildirs to mdbox format and I do it per partes, so
I change mail_location for user (in sql), than I use doveadm sync -u
user path_to_maildir and everything works mostly fine.
But now I found that when I migrate quite huge Maildir (about 24G of
mails) to mdbox, after sync the final mdbox is twice as big as source
Maildir (48GB). I

mdbox
Reviewing some mailing list archives and the wiki, I still don't have
a real clear picture of why I'd want to use mdbox. What I've taken from
the info I've reviewed says mdbox is more complicated (than sdbox), has
greater potential for breakage (simply because it's more complex), and
has a theoretical performance impact depending on the exact
filesystem/hardware used.

convert to mdbox
Hi
How can I convert all virtual mailboxes from maildir to mdbox? Manually,
one by one, working, but I have a lot ...
Virtual users and domains stored in sql database.
Thats what I want:
mail_location = maildir:/var/vmail/%d/%n/Maildir
to
mail_location = mdbox:/var/vmail/%d/%n/mdbox
Thanks

Problems Converting Maildir to mdbox
Hello,
I would like to convert all users mail from maildir to mdbox. My Dovecot
version is 2.0.1, converted from 1.2.13 but config was rewritten from
scratch.
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Migration/MailFormat says following:
maildir -> mdbox migration. Set mail_location=mdbox:~/mdbox
and run
doveadm convert -u username maildir:~/Maildir
but doveadm does not know a command like

Disk space usage with mdbox
Hello,
I am using dovecot with mdbox+sis and I notice an ever increasing disk
space usage since I converted mailboxes from Maildir to mdboxes. I have
checked with a user and while it actually uses only 65K, his mdbox files
on disk are more than 6G. The backup of his mailbox is just 64K. Any
suggestions ?
Below are some relevant commands:
[root at mail ~]# doveadm quota get -u test

Regenerating mdbox/sis
It's apparent I have some level of corruption in my mailboxes -
something to do with the combination of mdbox, sis, and zlib. I should
note that I know I have a mix of compressed and raw messages - if that
makes any difference in identifying the problems.
I think I need to
somehow regenerate the mailboxes with issues. Is there a suggestion for
how to accomplish this? Should I perhaps use

Backup recovery with mdbox
Hello
I'm using mdbox for mail storage. I'd like to give users an option to
recover backups into a new folder, say, Backup-$date.
Is there a simple way to do this? I was looking at tools like dsync and
doveadm-altmove but apparently they're not intended for this kind of
stuff.
Thanks in advance,

lazy_expuge + mdbox
To a degree I agree .. given mdbox doesnt delete until purge .. but then
would be nice if purge took a dovecot search rather than just ditch
everything with refcount=0 ... in that way could say purge everything
thats been marked as delete according to a specified criteria.

converting from maildir to mdbox ?
I?m considering moving from maildir to mdbox, but don?t quite see how
I should do the conversion with minimal downtime. Our userdb is ldap,
and the we use this setting to point to the users maildirectory:
user_attrs = mailMessageStore=mail=maildir:%$:INDEX=/indexes/%1u/%1.1u/%u,mailQuota=quota_rule=*:storage=%$
i.e. every user has a "mailMessageStore" attribute in LDAP that points
to
