rsync-ing on MacOS X.
Hi all,
I'm setting up a backup script for my Mac, and I'm wondering about the
rsync ability of dealing with HFS+ filesystem (resource-fork and
such...). I've searched the mailing list archive for this topic and
I've found some thread regarding it, but it's not clear to me what is
the actual situation. Is the HFS+ officially supported? Will it be in
the near future?

rsync 3.0.6 ACLs under MacOS 10.4
Have a functional rsync 3.0.6 server but am having troubles preserving
permissions from source to destination.
On server, rsyncd.conf looks like this (modules are defined but not listed
below):
cat /etc/rsyncd.conf
secrets file = /etc/rsyncd.secrets
read only = no
list = yes
uid = root
gid = wheel
On client am using -ApXrvvhog option and here are some errors am getting:

MacOS and Extended Attributes
I'm just starting with rsync(). I grabbed the 3.0.7 source and built it on Mac OS X.6.5 (./configure and ./make reported no problems.) When I try running with -X or -A, I get the following error messages:
rsync: unpack_smb_acl: sys_acl_get_info(): Unknown error: 0 (0)
rsync: unpack_smb_acl: sys_acl_get_info(): Unknown error: 0 (0)
A quick look at the buglist didn't reveal anything to

service(imap-login): Fatal: setrlimit(RLIMIT_DATA, 268435456): Invalid argument macOS
I fixed the issue with Dovecot not starting on macOS Ventura by adding this to 10-master.conf:
service log {
vsz_limit = 0
}
But now when I try to login via Imap on port 143 I get the same error for imap-login:

Lda fatal: setgid (102 from userdb lookup) failed
Sorry if this is a nubbie question, but I?m getting:
lda(jlbrown at bordo.com.au)<4444><QFg5KRHVBBxcEQAAYBwt+A>: Fatal: setgid(102 from userdb lookup) failed with euid=501(jlbrown), gid=20(staff), egid=20(staff): Operation not permitted (This binary should probably be called with process group set to 102 instead of 20(staff))
How can I fix this?

Is it possible to enable push notifications for iOS/macOS mail clients on a stock dovecot?
I have no idea about that Mac proprietary stuff ... however,
https://doc.dovecot.org/configuration_manual/push_notification/ might be
a solution/workaround for you.

Another concern is that Apple is planning to discontinue the binary
notification-submission endpoint late this year --- it's been replaced
by a (significantly nicer, IMHO) http2-based endpoint, but a quick look
at the xaps daemon looks like it's using the old protocol.

Is it possible to enable push notifications for iOS/macOS mail clients on a stock dovecot?
This requires the ongoing use of macOS Server (as does the patch that is part of the MacPorts port of dovecot2). The issue then is: how do you keep getting certificates for push mail if mail services have been removed from macOS Server? I can configure this today but on Oct 20, my apns certificate expires. Then what?

Trying to mount an FW800 6TB volumes.
The logs say;

Is my case really because of the >2TB volume?

Sure but imapsync does not preserve message UID's which means that users
end up redownloading all their messages or message/UID mismatches will
happen.

Is it possible to enable push notifications for iOS/macOS mail clients on a stock dovecot?
Now that Apple has abandoned mail server capabilities in macOS Server.app we have to move to an open source solution. I have done this using Macports and it works well (no thanks to Apple as it never published the in 2018 promised migration info for mail services).
The MacPorts Apple Push Notification variant based on a patch written a few years ago for dovecot supports APNS but it requires you
