Userdb userdb_mail=, error Mailbox list driver maildir++: maildir_name not supported by this driver
With this setting, all folders are empty, I guess understandable,
because the mdbox has its own indexes stored locally with it. Does not
explain though why inbox is empty.

Yes, I have still inbox mbox format because I have sendmail delivering

mdbox:~/mdbox:INBOX=/ var/spool/mail/%u:CONTROL=~/mail/control:INDEX=/var/dovecot/%u/index:LAYOUT=maildir++
You can't use LAYOUT=maildir++ here.

Local lmtp proxy on backend server
Hi Aki, you have some ingenious remark that could help?

I am staring constantly at the same logs, this is what I get from
dovecot[1]. Sendmail[2] is sending with test at svr1 maybe this overrides
lmtp proxying? This is a test with a special-userdb passwd-file also
having host=svr2

Local lmtp proxy on backend server
Hi Aki,
If I adapt this configuration on svr1 like this[0], should the mail not
be delivered at svr2
passdb {
driver = pam

[max_requests=<n>]
# [cache_key=<key>] [<service name>]
#args = dovecot
default_fields = proxy=y host=svr2
}

driver = passwd
skip = authenticated

Could not override "mail_location" with "userdb_mail" statment in "/etc/passwd"
Hi,
** Using Dovecot 2.2.22 and Postfix 3.1.0 **
I plan to migrate all accounts on my server from mbox to maildir storage but before i want to make some tests on dedicated accounts. To do so i want to overide the general "mail_location" ( mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u ) with "maildir:~/Maildir" only for some test accounts.
To do so i modified my

index location
Greetings.
We are testing with 1.2.9 and have found that with
mail_full_filesystem_access set to 'yes', we cannot force indexes for
folders under ~/mail to be stored in /var/dovecot/indexes/%u.
/var/dovecot/indexes/%u/.imap/INBOX/dovecot.index* is created just fine,
but everything else ends up in ~mail/.imap.
If I change mail_full_filesystem_access to 'no', then all indexes

Variable %h not recognized in userdb_mail (passwd-file)
As in subject, if you for instance create a simple passwd-file with:
test at domain.tld:{plain}pass:20000:10::/home/regular/.test::userdb_mail=maildir:%h/maildir
Dovecot (rc23 & 27) will expand %h to empty string, and try to make a

It appears that the lda + sieve does not respect the userdb_mail
setting, though the imap server does(!?). Is this expected behavior?

trying to combine static userdb with LDAP passdb with per-user userdb_mail and userdb_home
Hello, dovecot users.
I'm trying to cope with following problem I have single computer which
will be going to be final destination for several virtual domains.
Domains are stored in LDAP catalog. Dovecot will be working together
with Postfix MTA running on same computer.
I'm a bit confused how to achieve following thing: I want Postfix to use
Dovecot LMTP server for mail delivery. All

problem getting mail from mbox
I'm trying to set up dovecot and I'm running into a few problems.
I just want to use IMAP for one user, everyone else gets POP3 from the
existing (working server).
$MAIL is set to /var/spool/mail/gavin_imap
In my /var/spool/mail directory I now have a problem:

Thanks. Assuming that the IMAP mail directory for the account affected is
under /home/xyz/mail, are you talking about the contents of the index
directory, excluding the log file therein?

Dovecot crash
This happening when my Thunderbird client is trying to establish a
connection with a Dovecot server. Some background first:
1) I am running Thunderbird 6.20.1 from a Linux client.
2) Other clients (e.g. Maildroid in my Android phone) do not have any
issues.
3) The Dovecot software is version 2.2.9, running in a Linux server.
4) This may be the root of the problem: at some point, the
