Okay then. Is there a document on how to do that in place? That was one of the reasons I was trying to do a backup first.

Ok, so for lack of any other information, am I to conclude that the doveadm backup command is broken in 2.0.9? I have been through the wiki for it back and forth and cannot make it work.
Yes, I need to upgrade, there is no question, but I won?t do that without a maildir backup. I would prefer to use the built-in dovecot mechanisms for that than something else.

I'd say the correct term is not broken but missing. backup was implemented in later version.

With maildir keeping a copy of the content is sufficient backup.

Okay, apparently I?m just a complete idiot. Why doesn?t this work?
doveadm -Dv backup -u user Maildir:/mnt/maelstrombackups/vmailbackup
With user being the actual user name.
No backup is created, it just shows me the usage text.

Here is my command:
[root at mail maelstrombackups] #mkdir -p vmailbackup
[root at mail vmail]# chown: vmail:vmail /mnt/maelstrombackups/vmailbackup
[root at mail vmail]# doveadm backup -u jeff maildir:/mnt/maelstrombackups/vmailbackup
Only gives me the usage list, doesn?t work.

Assistance with doveadm backup...
I am having trouble locating examples of how to use doveadm backup. All the examples I see are for sync. I simply want to create a backup to a network volume of the email server's vmail folders. The goal here is to have a reasonably current backup should the main drive on the email server go south.

In that scenario, what actually happens? Does mail get stored? Or rejected? Or delayed?

Re: Panic…
Shouldn't an event of this type trigger a useful warning instead of a cryptic programming error?

I'd take the opposite approach and tell them no new mail will be received
until they are under quota.

Here is a simple template you can use as quick start example, and what you can expand later on, feel free to adapt your needs
mail_home=/home/vmail/%Lu
mail_location=sdbox:~/Mail
mail_uid = vmail
mail_gid = vmail
passdb {
driver = static
args = password=pass
}
ssl=yes
ssl_cert=<cert.pem
ssl_key=<key.pem
namespace {
inbox = yes
separator = /
}

Your dovecot.index.cache file has grown too huge. The only solution now is to delete it,

I DID offer my help privately. And I have attempted on NUMEROUS occasions to contract somebody to help with ZERO response. So, you?ll excuse me if I have an attitude.

Hi
A datacenter I use provides mountable nfs shares that are provided
through a subnet, the only person having access to the nfs share is me.
If I do this:
mount -t nfs 192.168.53.21:/USERNAME /mnt/share/
then I get the share:

Fedora Core 5 & CIFS - please help!
After trying a couple of Linux forums & no help I'm hoping that somebody
on the samba list knows how to solve this issue. I'm having a problem
with CIFS. This is a fresh installation of Fedora Core 5. I have 3 XP
machines that I mount by CIFS in my fstab. CIFS mounts the shares with
no problem. I can view and read files on the shares. The problem I have
is when I try to copy a file
