Random issue on mailbox "assertion failed"
Hi, Since few weeks, I have regularly the issue below with some mailboxes - This is happening randomly. Users are complaining emails are not visible. The situation is recovered by removing indexes but I would like to have it fix permanently. Ruuning dovecot 2.2.10 - Anyone to advise me what is wrong ? Thanks. Dovecot panic for one user after upgrading
Hi! The problem seems to occur during mail index processing. Can you try deleting all dovecot.index* files under this user's maildir. There might be some more under various folders. Dovecot panic for one user after upgrading
The EC2 instance that I run Dovecot on (personal mail server) was forcibly "retired" yesterday, and as a result I ended up rebuilding from backups. In the process I switched from Ubuntu Precise to Ubuntu Xenial (12.04 to 16.04), and this in turn caused me to upgrade Dovecot from 2.0.19 to 2.0.22. Now, although accessing mail seems to work OK using my various clients, I am seeing

Hi, I had the similar messages after an upgrade then downgrade. I was able to fix by removing all indexes files. Exactly - I removed then with find . -name "dovecot.index*" -type f -delete There is no need to restart dovecot. Thanks. Unfortunately, that made no difference. Dovecot crash
This happening when my Thunderbird client is trying to establish a connection with a Dovecot server. Some background first: 1) I am running Thunderbird 6.20.1 from a Linux client. 2) Other clients (e.g. Maildroid in my Android phone) do not have any issues. 3) The Dovecot software is version 2.2.9, running in a Linux server. 4) This may be the root of the problem: at some point, the

Thanks. Assuming that the IMAP mail directory for the account affected is under /home/xyz/mail, are you talking about the contents of the index directory, excluding the log file therein? index corruption weirdness
We have started seeing index corruption ever since we upgraded (we believe) our imap servers from SL6 to Centos 7. Mail/Indexes are stored on Netapps mounted via NFS. We have 2 lvs servers running surealived in dr/wlc, 2 directors and 6 backend imap/pop servers. Most of the core dumps I've looked at for different users are like "Backtrace 2" with some variations on folder path.

Panic: file mail-index-sync-ext.c: line 155 (get_ext_header): assertion failed
One of the mbox files on my server causes dovecot to assert. I've caught the assert in gdb and have attached the backtrace. Unfortunatly my binary isn't built with debugging symbols, so I'm not sure how helpful it will be. smtp:/var$ uname -a Linux smtp 2.6.14-2-686-smp #1 SMP Sat Nov 26 13:37:07 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux smtp:/var$ cat /etc/debian_version 3.1 smtp:/var$ dpkg -p

A Couple Assertion Failures
Here's a couple of assertion failures from CVS version as of Oct. 6. There's also a segfault but the core file was empty so I don't know if the log entries are much help. BTW, the searching speed using pine has dramatically improved, nice work!
