Enable compression only for namespace with mdbox storage
Currently there is no way to enable compression per namespace.

Enable compression only for namespace with mdbox storage
Like mentioned here
https://www.dovecot.org/pipermail/dovecot/2013-March/089084.html
I have a namespace with mbox and a namespace with mdbox mailboxes. How
do I only enable the compression for the mdbox mailboxes?

mdbox + zlib performing less than just mdbox
I have test environment to determine what would be best settings. I have
been told that enabling zlib compression would be good to save iops on
storage. But doing the test now, I get worse results.
[@test2 ~]# pr -m -t mail04-mdbox-vdb-append-64kb-6.log
mail04-mdbox-vdb-append-64kb-8.log |less

Performance mdbox vs mbox
If I do the same test[1] with mbox I can store around 31k messages and
mdbox 16k messages. I noticed also that cpu and disk utilization with
mdbox was not very high, while disk utilization on mbox was much higher.
That makes me wonder if I can tune mdbox to have better performance?

Yes, I have still inbox mbox format because I have sendmail delivering
there. I trying to migrate/convert
step by step, with least possible impact for users.

With this setting, all folders are empty, I guess understandable,
because the mdbox has its own indexes stored locally with it. Does not
explain though why inbox is empty.

Relocate subfolders to different mount point
I think sdbox or mdbox format is what you are looking for

Userdb userdb_mail=, error Mailbox list driver maildir++: maildir_name not supported by this driver
I have this default configuration [0], when use the userdb_mail to point
to the mdbox location, the inbox subfolders show differently in a
firebird client. So I decided to copy the whole default mail_location
into the userdb_mail configuration [2]. But then I get errors [3].
Should I change the namespace configuration here, how? My default
namespaces are inbox and 4archives

Recovering expunged but not purged e-mails from mdbox with zlib compression
Yesterday I had to recover an e-mail which a user had deleted. If I
understand this correctly the message was expunged but not purged
(doveadm purge had not been run).
This e-mail was clearly still in the mdbox stored with zlib compression
as I could tell using the doveadm dump command (doveadm dump -t dbox
filename).
I could however not reveal the e-mail with the normal doveadm fetch -u

mdbox and folders containing both messages and sub-folders
I've got Dovecot 2.2r5 (Ubuntu package version 2:2.2.0~rc5-0~auto+1
from the "testing-auto/dovecot-2.2" repository on xi.rename-it.nl)
running on a brand-new Ubuntu 12.04.2 server.
I'm trying to configure Dovecot (using the "mdbox" mailbox format) to
allow folders to contain both messages and sub-folders. However, it's
not working consistently.
I need to have

mdbox compression
I was wondering if I should add compression support to mdbox one mail at
a time or one file (~2MB) at a time. The tradeoffs are:
* one mail at a time allows quickly seeking to wanted mail inside the
file, but it can't compress mails as well
* one file at a time compresses better, but seeking is slow because it
can only be done by uncompressing all the data until the wanted offset
is reached

Access to deleted mails in mdbox storage
Hi Timo,
we are currently running dovecot 2.1.10 using mdbox storage. Sometimes we
get requests from users to restore accidentally deleted mails. If the
mails got deleted before a backup was made, such mails could of course not
be restored from backup. One option to help users in this respect would be
to use the lazy expunge plugin.
On the other hand I have seen, that the deleted mails stay

Virus scan + removal on a mdbox mail storage
Hi,
I need advice on how virus scan and removal can be done on a _mdbox_
mail storage?
On a maildir storage the virus scanner (e.g. clamav etc.) can detect
and remove a email that is infected, since every email and attachment
are stored in separate files.
But in mdbox the emails and attachments are compressed together in one
ore more mdbox-files ...
I am anxious to convert my mail

Expuning & Purging doesn't fully remove emails?
But is that not adviced in the manual[1]? I am also in the process of
setting up dovecot behind a haproxy. Still testing with this. I was
wondering why one would choose haproxy and not eg dovecot proxy (with
director)

Moving messages between servers with different configurations
Hi Martin,
I feel a bit like an idiot, but I have been trying with copy, so I do
not lose any message when testing. But I can't get them to copy. I do
indeed have same uid and gid.

messages test
messages=43
[@~]# doveadm mailbox status -u testuser -t messages INBOX/test2
