SIS and mailbox restore
Still on the problem with dovecot 2.2.27 .... I use the single instance storage, and mdbox format. I use 2 zfs file systems, one for mailboxes, the other for attachements. I use znapzend to generate many zfs snapshots for backup purpose (inode numbers are preserved but it is unusefull). When I try to restore a deleted/purged mailbox with doveadm import I get the error of the first attachement

Rsync to backup dbox with SIS
We will be deploying a replacement Dovecot server soon, and we are planning to use maildir for the primary storage, but with an archive namespace using mdbox (or perhaps sdbox), and SIS. Our backup servers and (luke)warm spare server need to obtain full copies of the mail store. For the maildirs I know I can simply use rsync (we already use it here). I'm a little wary of using rsync with

doveadm sis deduplicate problem
Hi all, I'm running dovecot 2.3.7.1, with mdbox and single instance storage. I use offline deduplication like this: mail_attachment_fs = sis-queue /mailboxes/%d/_attachments_/queue:posix Each week I run doveadm sis deduplicate to deduplicate the mail attachments. Everything was fine until I mistakenly run doveadm sis deduplicate twice, simultaneously. I ended up having some error messages

Doubts about dsync, mdbox, SIS
I've been running continous dsync backups of our Maildirs for a few weeks now, with the destination dsync server using mdbox and SIS. The idea was that the destination server would act as a warm copy of all our active users data. The active servers are using Maildir, and has: $ df -h /usr/local/atmail/users/ Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/atmailusers

Disable SIS
Hi, I'm currently running a small home-server with Dovecot. A long time ago I configured it with SIS enabled. I would like to stop using SIS. If I remove sis from mail_attachment_fs will the old mails that are stored in SIS-storage still be accessible? How can I convert all mailboxes to stop using SIS and store attachments back in the mails? Rgds, N.

How to Delete an user and Purge attachements with a common directory mail_attachment_dir with SIS for all users.
Hello everybody, What is the best way to delete an user mailbox (ex: /var/mail/johndoe ) when all attachments (for all users) are in a common directory with SIS deduplication (ex: mail_attachment_dir = /var/mail/attachments ) ? Trying to delete user mailbox directory (rm) and do the command : doveadm -v purge -u johndoe leave all johndoe's attachments orphelin. Best regards,

Rsync to backup dbox with SIS (Daniel Miller)

Disk space usage with mdbox
Why things happen is one of the great mysteries and joys of being a sysadmin... As for cleaning up SIS, I believe the "doveadm purge" command takes care of it. I have a daily cronjob which includes: #!/bin/sh # Permanently expunge old Trash doveadm expunge -A mailbox Trash savedbefore 2w # Optimize mdbox storage doveadm purge -A # Update fts indexes doveadm fts rescan -A -- Daniel

Rebuilding SIS attachment links from log
I use this script for review. For a correct result Dovecot should not run. #!/bin/bash attdir="/var/files/attachments" maildir="/var/mail" cd "$attdir" || exit 1 find -type f -printf "%P\n" | grep -v "hashes" | sort -u >"$maildir/attachments.s" cd "$maildir" || exit 2 rm "$maildir/files.ok"

Aborted dsync backup and resulting fallout
Hi, I am in the middle of setting up a dovecot imap server to replace an aging cyrus imapd. The new server is using mdbox storage for better filesystem performance and is running dovecot-2.2.32. To migrate email over and keep UIDs etc. intact I used the backup feature of doveadm. During testing this generally worked fine. So thanks for that functionality, it really makes migration much

what user to use for SIS deduplication?
Running Dovecot 2.2.25. I have the following line in my root crontab: "/usr/local/bin/doveadm sis deduplicate /home/dovecot/buzones/attachments /home/dovecot/buzones/attachments/queue" This line is execute each hour and the plan is to deduplicate attachments stored in the SIS system. This works well most of the time, but from time to time cron complains with this error:

Rebuilding SIS attachment links from log
Well, with no guarantees or promises whatsoever...here's my first attempt. I'm certain someone else can come up with a much more robust solution but it's a starting point. Since I typically see a batch of the error messages during an FTS update, my current usage is: 1. doveadm fts rescan -u user-to-fix 2. Perform a fts search to do a full mailbox scan 3. Check the mail log to

Disk space usage with mdbox
Daniel thank you for the advice, I have done this exact procedure to clean up some space and I reduced the used space by more than 60% (huge gain!). Yet it is still a mystery why this happened first place and more important if it will occur again, time will tell. I have kept one mailbox out of this procedure (the "live" size is 8,8G, the backup size is less than 1GB) to do some

mdbox + sis + altstorage: error in attachments-connector (file not found)
Hello, first time here. I am playing with Dovecot because of its mdbox storage, SIS feature and altstorage ability. I authenticate against LDAP (passdb), but I don't fetch operational data from LDAP (mail_locations are static from config files and "user_attrs = =uid=500, =gid=500, =home=/maildata1/home/%d/%1n/%n"). On a daily basis I run "doveadm altmove -A savedbefore
