Logging is generally done by syslogd, not directly by the process. So no, dovecot is not writing to a file owned by root anymore than postfix is writing to mail.log which is also owned by root.

So is yours. Why not say what SHOULD be done? Since we were discussing logging, including only the lines about logging seem to be a reasonable response to the original open-ended question. ?Please include the complete output of ?dovecot -n?? would get your point across instead of just letting you be a snarky ass. Overrideing pop delete?
Is it possible to override the POP3 delete on download command and make sure that messages stay on the server for at least X hours or X days? It is important that the messages be around long enough to hit a snapshot cycle (using rsnapshot to backup ever hour). -- Greedo didn't shoot first, motherfucker!

Out of memory on lmtp vsz_limit
How about you try moving the mail into another folder on daily basis, this way the INBOX would stay nice and empty. doveadm move -u archive at company.com Archive MAILBOX INBOX SENTBEFORE todays-date Aki On 16.02.2018 06:19, Terence Lau wrote: > > Bump. > > ? > > Any advice would be most appreciated. > > ? > > Thanks. > > ? > > *From:*Terence Lau >

Courier migration to dovecot
Hi, I'm almost ready to migrate Courier to Dovecot 2.2.31 but I have one question about home and mail directory. It's good idea to have same directory form home and mail ? Which scenerio will be better and why ? For example: A) Home: /home/doamin/user1 Mail: /home/doamin/user1 B) Home: /home/doamin/user1/home Mail: /home/doamin/user1 C) Home: /home/doamin/user1/ Mail:

Out of memory on lmtp vsz_limit
Hi, We've been getting these types or errors for quite a while now ... Fatal: master: service(lmtp): child 63477 returned error 83 (Out of memory (service lmtp { vsz_limit=4096 MB }, you may need to increase it) ... and these errors have been decreasing in occurrence as we increased the default_vsz_limit. Which is good but I would like to get some advice on how I could possibly eliminate

Manage but don't create resource
Hi, I have certain situations where I want to manage user attributes, if the user already exists on a system, but not actually create them if they are missing. Is there a way to do this? I tried removing the explicit "ensure => present", but this seems to have no effect (i.e. missing users still created). I am running 2.7.9. Thanks, Alan -- You received this message because

Panic on alway_bcc mail with attachment while using sdbox
I do always get a panic on service lmtp, while receiving a mail by postfix through always_bcc, containing an attachment. If the bcc recipient would be supplied by a small delay, I would say that the panic wouldn't occur, but I don't know how to verify this. dovecot is configured with 'mail_attachment_dir' and the public namespace location is sdbox dovecot log: Aug 6 14:18:02

Adding secure POP3?
I have a working server that only allows connections over secure IMAP (port 993) and secured submission (587). However, I have one account that has been forwarding mail to gmail for many years and that is getting to be more and more of a problem as more large sites enforce DMARC. So, the only way that gmail will pull mail is via pop3, so I need to add pop3 access. 1) How do I add a secure (TLS)

some questions on dovecot or rather a mail system setup
Hi folks. Perhaps you find some time to look into this,... if you think I should better direct this do some dovecot mailing list,.. just tell :) I'm trying to plan my mail system and would have some questions. The overall idea is about the following: - There is a (internet) server, which is the MTA (which will be postfix) and imap and/or pop3 server (which shall be, guess, dovecot!). -
