That is what I used before and wanted to switch off. Here is the 2 main
reasons:
1) It add extra header overhead similar to: Received by localost at
time, etc....)
2) It put emails in local delivery queue so syncing becomes slow.

Syncing emails from external server like Gmail
Greeting
I've managed to backup my emails from external email server via dsync
and imapc: protocol like this:
doveadm -Dv -o imapc_user='user at gmail.com' -o imapc_password="pass"
-o imapc_host=imap.gmail.com backup -R -u duke at ejoom.com imapc:

Client Identification
I have two seperate clients (using fetchmail) on two seperate machines that use the same login and the same ip address as each other fetching their mail over IMAP using IMAP idle. Naturally Dovecot assumes that they are the same machine but they are not so messages only get downloaded to one of the machines rather than both which is what I want. How do I get Dovecot to recognize them as two

Disabling passdb pam in local.conf

No, that would eliminate the ability to change distro settings via the regular
package management.
My goal is to add/remove what my service requires via the additional
local.conf.

How to manage email with an ISP restricted mailbox size?
Sorry if this is a bit off topic but I'm hoping list members here might
have some ideas.
Aim: use ISP provided email with restricted inbox size but keep an IMAP
accessible archive of emails (including 'sent' messages) on a remote server.
Scenario:
- Don't want to run my own SMTP server
- Have free ISP email with 1Gb mailbox limit and spam filtering that works
well
- Have remote

Using deliver from Getmail?
Hello list,
a quick question: can I use Dovecot's LDA "deliver" as a destination in
Getmail? I.e.:
[destination]
type = MDA_external
path = /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver
arguments = ("-d", "username",)
Or is deliver not supposed to be called this way?
What I'd like to do is use deliver in the same way I would have used procmail
ages ago. Getmail

Disabling passdb pam in local.conf
Greetings,
I'm trying to create a configuration that leaves every config file deployed by
an install process or paket management software untouched. The goal is to put
every configuration required into /etc/dovecot/local.conf.
I've come quite far, but I fail to disable pam as passdb service in
local.conf. What I get if I run doveconf -n is this section:
passdb {
driver = pam
}
It is

OfflineIMAP is not the way to go. Many ISPs have very low size limits for the mailbox sizes. The one I am looking at right now does have this problem
(unless you pay extra).

Deprecations for schema.xml and newest Solr version (7.2.x)
Hi,
the schema.xml example provided for dovecot in
/usr/share/doc/dovecot-<verison> does not work anymore with the newest
Solr Version (as I know of 7.2.x) because some field classes and filter
classes are deprecated in this version.
The changes (according to the Solr documentation) would have to be :
In the index analyzer :

Exactly (he said that in his initial mail).

Corrupted Mail?
Hello All,
I have a Dovecot v2.2.12 installation running on a Fedora 20 box which
is the mailserver for my family. This means that it is serving only 4
accounts.
I use fetchmail->procmail to feed Dovecot and I read my mail on clients
such as Evolution on (another) Fedora 20 machine, iPad/iPhone or
squirrelmail on the web (running on the same Fedora 20 server).
The average mail throughput for

welcome plugin
Hello,
If anyone is using the welcome plugin in dovecot 2.2.x to sent a
one-time new welcome email to new users can I get a look at your
configuration? I'm stuck, I create a user and the welcome action does
not execute. If you've got a script to send the mail can I get a look
at that as well?
Thanks.
Dave.

How to limit Apple Mail (desktop)?
By default, Apple Mail downloads all e-mails from server's account. Previous versions of this client allowed to opt-out. The latest two versions? however, only allow to opt-out from downloading the attachments.
The stress on the server is unbearable. We cannot ask users to be considerate: this is the default behaviour of Apple Mail.
We need a server-side solution to the problem.
