understanding dovecot director passdb configuration
Hey All I am very new to dovecot ecosystem. Found the software really robust and secure. Kudos to the team!!! We are setting up dovecot imap servers sharing a single nfs mount point. So to avoid nfs cache issues, we are setting up dovecot director. We are using dovecot version 2.2.10. While going through the documentation of dovecot director I stumbled across the following lines in passdb

Director pop-login and imap-login processes exiting on signal 11
We recently upgraded our cluster to 2.1.3, to enable director proxying. Everything appears to be working fine for the most part; the only odd thing is that I'm seeing a lot of entries in the logs like this: Apr 7 02:18:05 mail-out06 dovecot: pop3-login: Fatal: master: service(pop3-login): child 75029 killed with signal 11 (core not dumped - set service pop3-login {

Hi, I have set up ImapcProxy based on the wiki2 page. My server is set up for no plain text auth without starttls. When I am trying to login in the proxy server, I am getting an error Unknown username/password. The log says: *dovecot: imap-login: Aborted login (auth failed, 1 attempts in 2 secs): user=<xxx>, method=PLAIN, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, TLS, session=<1pBG/03XogB/AAAB>*

imap login fails with "no auth attempts"
Hi, I'm currently facing a strange behaviour of dovecot 1.2.10 (and before): after some days the login into our mail servers stops working for imap-connections. pop3-users can go on with using dovecot. Looking into the logfile I can only find: [...] imap-login: Disconnected (no auth attempts) imap-login: Disconnected: Shutting down (no auth attempts) [...] as a hint what is maybe happening.

director's imap/pop3 login timeout
Hello, We have two (load balanced) director servers in front of 4 dovecot backend servers. Yesterday we had a problem at backend servers for some users (our SSO was down, so IMAP users couldn't authenticate) and this triggered a problem in director servers where almost nobody could open a new session. In our director's logs I could see errors like this: Mar 20 20:52:47 myotis41

Director for smtp-auth
Hi all, isn't it possible to use the director functionality for smtp-auth too? I have a frontend system for imap and outgoing mails using sasl and I recognized that all sasl username/password combinations are accepted as these credentials aren't checked by the backend servers. Regards Patrick

Login/director not created
I too assume this socket should be in the login dir. I am suggesting that maybe the socket is not being created because of permissions. Therefore if you explicitly set { group = dovenull } you may fix the permissions issue. I am not running director in my setup, just pointing out what jumped out at me.
