Dovecot Setup as just a local IMAP server.
Hey All,
Id just like to start by thanking Timo Sirainen and any others that
helped produce such a great IMAP server, it was a breeze to set up with
no previous experience in mail servers.
What I am trying to do is setup a spare computer to run Dovecot and that
It stores all my email from my accounts which are all accessed through
POP. This way instead of being tied to one mail client (and

Ghost DNS Entry (WERR_DNS_ERROR_RECORD_ALREADY_EXISTS)
Hallo,
I'm using Samba 4 AD in production now for more than a half year. All
works great since today. Today I was unable to access my network
printer by its hostname. So I looked up his DNS Entry using the
Windows DNS-Manager and recognized that the DNS entry for the printer
is missing. I tried to readd it, but got the error message that the
entry already exists.
Next I tried to remove an

Ghost DNS Entry (WERR_DNS_ERROR_RECORD_ALREADY_EXISTS)
Hi,
I've the same problem but I'm on samba version 4.1.12 and gentoo and also
using bind backend.
However, my result are a bit different.
In my case, the entry cannot be seen from RAT nor can i add/delete the same
name entry (same like you)
However I can still ping or resolve that host name...
That was the strange part...
I would like to know the answer as well.

Mailbox & Server Down
Fetchmail connects to your provider's e-mail server as if it were an
MUA, then feeds mail to your server's MTA as if it were a peer MTA. If
your provider doesn't allow client connections (by IMAP or POP), then
you're right that fetchmail won't help.
It sounds as though you need to set up some kind of failover for your
MTA: a second SMTP server, probably configured to feed

hosting emails at home
I have dovecot postfix setup on my home server as well. I use a virtual
server in the cloud as my mx record and mail relay and have my home record
on dynamic dns. It's really effective.

Accentuated email addresses stored in LDAP
Hello everyone,
I have successfully set up Dovecot with an LDAP backend, and everything
works like a charm, except one small use case.
I know it is possible, so if anyone knows a solution, thank you!
Basically, I just want to send an email to one of my email address,
which contains an accent, i.e. andr?@homebox.space....
Every other alias works, but not those with accents. They are correctly

I read about fetchmail.I understand that it doesn't work if the mail server uses an MTA.

Wish-list: X-Delivered-To headers generated by dovecot-deliver
Would it be sensible/"cost effective" to make dovecot-deliver generated
X-Delivered-To header(s) based on command line parameter(s)?
[after striping such existing headers, before consulting sieve]
I need it to:
a) *clearly* mark POP/IMAP account fetched by fetchmail
[with fetchmail using directly dovecot-deliver in --mda option]
b) cleanly implement "shared mailboxes" with

Make Winbind/PAM not return domain part for usernames
Hi! I have a problem involving Samba4, exim4, fetchmail, dovecot and PAM...
I have setup a "maildrop" machine, which fetches mail from an external POP3
server for multiple accounts and then serves them locally via IMAP. On the
same machine, I am currently running Samba 4.0.9 over Debian Wheezy. The
idea is that fetchmail gets the mail, passes it to exim4, gets delivered to

Basic questions concerning mail...
Hey all,
A few minutes ago, I installed Dovecot, hoping things would get clear by
just looking at the relevant config files, but since they don't, I hope
someone here could give me a clue...
What I want to achieve is really only basic functionality. It's just for
personal use, so it shouldn't get too complicated. Up til now, I have
been using fetchmail to get my mail off of several

Asterisk & Zaptel setup on vserver
Hello,
I've been trying to setup asterisk with zaptel for the last 3-4 days. I had
a lot of errors and fixed all of them but asterisk still didn't work. Then I
saw that zaptel couldn't be loaded because I was on a vserver and I didn't
have the devices under /dev/zap/. I asked the system guys to install zaptel,
they did but now I am getting this error only:

You have a solution that properly maps UTF to a non-UTF namespace. As I understand it, SMTPUTF8 uses a UTF8 namespace.
So, this would indicate SMTPUTF8

How do folk . . . Aggregate system mail from LAN machines?
List, good evening,
Running Dovecot for external email, but not yet worked out how (best)
to aggregate 'system' mail from other machines on the LAN. By system
mail, I mean mails generated by the OS or by applications, and
addressed to root, or 'some admin user', etc. Ideally, these would be
seen by 'root' or 'some admin user' or whoever on our existing

Megatec_usb driver
Trying to use it with Sven Smart RM2000 (seems to be an OEM clone of
Sysgration Smart RM UPS: http://www.sysgration.com/product.asp?KID=7).
I have just compiled the latest svn trunk. Unfortunately it does not
work with that UPS:

recipient delimiter and sieve filters
Dear all,
I have found a way to automatically copy sent emails in the "Sent"
folder, but I am not sure it is the simplest and more reliable way on
the long term.
I am open to suggestions if I miss a feature in Dovecot - or Postfix,
that allows me to do this. I vaguely remember an SMTP extension that do
that, but my memory could be wrong.
First, I use "~" as a recipient
