ACL and recursive permission
Hello, I'm trying to setup a Samba with ACL support. Everything is working fine BUT I have a problem when I try to change permission on a share from a Windows XP/2000 environment. When I select a directory and goes on the "Security" tab and change the permissions (for exemple set write for user xyz), it changes the ACL for the directory but it doesn't change the subfolders

gpupdate use wrong url
I use bind on the same maschine as samba (bind_dlz). there is no additional bind9 in my test network. the default gw (kvm host) do nat. and bind of this network does know nothink about zone "foo". I think that is a problem of the windows nslookup. I installed bind nslookup on the PC just for test and this can resolve "foo" and "foo." c:\s_tools (nslookup win)

Using classes from extnode to define config files?
Hi all, I''m using cobbler as our external node manager and it''s working really well (including deployment of ActiveMQ from RI''s RPMS and Mcollective - blog post coming soon!) however I''ve run into a problem with exim configuration files. We use exim in a number of different configurations depending on the role of the server (webserver/antivirus/outbound

R tools for large files
I'm wondering if anyone has written some functions or code for handling very large files in R. I am working with a data file that is 41 variables times who knows how many observations making up 27MB altogether. The sort of thing that I am thinking of having R do is - count the number of lines in a file - form a data frame by selecting all cases whose line numbers are in a supplied vector

Tools for data preparation?
Hello list, I'm regularly in the position where I have to do a lot of data manipulation, in order to get the data I have into a format R is happy with. This manipulation would generally be in one of two forms: - getting data from e.g. text log files into a tabular format - extracting sensible sample data from a very large data set (i.e. too large for R to handle) In general, I use Perl or

Samba permission settings ... Server 777 ... wks 755!?
I have one Samba share on my server (RH9). The permission on the shared folders/files are set to 777. The owner of the files/folders is let's say X. When I mount the share on my workstation (Mandrake 9.1) using the username, uid and gid option (of user X) the owner of the files that I see at the mount point is still X, but the permissions are now 755. Why aren't the permission's

'/tmp' does not exist or permission denied ...: /tmp has 777 permission
Not sure what caused it. It must be some change to permissions. I know I changed the root password with passwd and changed it back afterwards when problems started. I know for sure I didn't change a thing to the samba config. No firewall running atm. This morning I did smbpasswd as root and set it (to be sure) to same passwd as the original one. But I don't think this matters anymore. I

Can't save to a 777
I have Samba working well on my Linux 6.1 server with one exception. I can save a file to the server with windows explorer and retrieve it. I can open a file with notepad or any other application. I can't save it once I've opened it. It claims I don't have permissions. I've given it 777. What can be wrong?

Permission denied for home, even when it's 777
In order to veriify if it is indeed SELINUX, what happens when you use 'setenforce 0' ? Usuallh , you need use_samba_home_dirs boolean to be enabled. Setting up Profiles share... 777?!

--keep-dirlinks --delete erroneously deletes symlinks to directories
Hi, the combination of --keep-dirlinks and --delete (--delete-during, --delete-delay) erroneously deletes symlinks to directories on the receiver. With --delete-before and --delete-after it works as expected. (rsync version 3.0.3 protocol version, on Debian Lenny) I don't think that this behaviour is intended. Details/example: - Host 1 directory-structure: drwx------ ./1
