IMAP preauth and stats-writer
I use IMAP preauth; I connect with Alpine over SSH which is very useful. The last few upgrades this has become more difficult to to. Last time (moving 2.2 -> 2.3, I think) I had to put in a workaround: stats_writer_socket_path = It prevented /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/imap attempting to connect to a central stats service. As of an upgrade today (2.3.2.1_1 -> 2.3.4_3 on FreeBSD) it

Purpose of stats-writer and why doveadm try to open it to dump stats ?
Hello, I want to monitor dovecot stats, and so I have an exporter process that run with limited rights. The monitoring user has only access to /var/run/dovecot/stats-reader and it works fine. Doveadm stats dump returns the list of all stats as expected. But each time I run doveadm stats dump, it logs the following error: Error: net_connect_unix(/var/run/dovecot/stats-writer) failed: Permission

I'm the FreeBSD port maintainer for dovecot and I just added this patch to the port in SVN. 489515. Thanks! -Felipe

Virtual Mailboxes redux
I?ve created virtual mailboxes in dovecot, and they show up in various clients, but the folders contain no messages. (I will get an ?empty? folder icon named ?@virtual? and an empty folder icon named ?month? inside it. Is there a way I can verify what dovecot THINKS should be in the virtual folder via doveadm?

Using virtual folders with younger and index files
Hi list, I just encountered a problem while using dovecot's Virtual plugin with 2.3.0. I managed to solve the issue, but I wanted to bring it to the attention of others on the list to see if there exists a better solution, if I found a bug, or if it's just a matter of updating documentation. I have a virtual folder to get the most recent two weeks of mails; it looks something like this:

Upgrade 2.2.27 to 2.3.9.2: master(imap): net_connect_unix(imap) failed: Resource temporarily unavailable
Hi, After upgrading Dovecot from version 2.2.27 to 2.3.9.2, we are sporadically seeing lots of these errors in the error log on many of our servers: imap-login: Error: master(imap): net_connect_unix(imap) failed: Resource temporarily unavailable - http://wiki2.dovecot.org/SocketUnavailable The issue is causing significant delays and/or timeouts on login. From what I can tell, this

doveadm quota error output in some cases
I am testing a special setup on one machine where I want to put some local users that get mail locally to /home user directories via postfix transport map local: for historical and practical reasons. Other users are setup as virtual users. The local users are *also* setup as virtual users for dovecot so that I can retrieve the mail via dovecot. I changed the SQL for dovecot user_query, so

doveadm purge -A via doveadm-proxy director fails after some users
Hi, we have configured userdb and passdb in the director and try to iterate all users and pass the "purge" command via doveadm proxy to port 19000 on the correct director backend host. A single purge -u username at example.org via doveadm-proxy works correctly, but iterating over some users with -A fails. Note: users/domains have been anonymized in output:

Hi all, To backup our imap folders I've a cronjob running in the night: /usr/bin/doveadm -o stats_writer_socket_path= backup -R -A -N tcp:xxx.yyy.zzz:4191 This ran successful when I set it up and didn't look at it anymore.
