iPhone/iPad IMAP connection bursts causes user+IP exceeded
Apologies for bumping Joseph Tam's rather old thread, but I'm wondering
if anyone has come up with a workaround/fix for this problem that iOS
Mail.app clients (10.3.3, 11.0.3, 11.1?) continue to exhibit?

iPhone/iPad IMAP connection bursts causes user+IP exceeded
Thanks for the reply and suggestion Robert.
I have now set mail_max_userip_connections to 400 in 20-imap.conf to see
if it makes any difference.
Late yesterday the customer tested from his office, an older IOS 9
tablet and he had IMAP working in a matter of minutes, so is certainly
an newer software version by Apple issue.

I frequently see this from my iPhone/iPad IMAP users:

Understood -- that's the current situation I'm in now.

Controlling inactivity timeout for IMAP
I have a problem with a user who uses a wireless carrier that keeps
changing his IP as he travels throughout the city. From the perspective
of our dovecot IMAP server, the user keeps logging in from another IP,
and after a short while, hits up against the mail_max_userip_connections
limit. It takes 30 minutes before those orphaned connections times out.
Is there any way to decrease the IMAP

Problems with upgrade 2.0.16 -> 2.1.3
I ran into two issues trying to upgrade our dovecot installation (Solaris 10).
1) Does not compile with OpenSSL 0.9.7
Not a big deal, as I was able to successfully against OpenSSL 0.9.8,
but does dovecot require OpenSSL >= 0.9.8 now?

Benchmarking auth
Hello,
I'm attempting to use imaptest to test auths/sec on my imap server, to
simulate the number I'm getting now on a new server. Based on my
readings of dovecot stats outputs, my current machine is doing somewhere
between 11.6 and 196 logins/sec at its busiest, and I want to make sure
the new server can handle that amount.
With imaptest I attempt to simulate this by just simulating

regarding ssl certificates
With PKIX validation the certificate should match the hostname.
With SMTP, the hostname should match the reverse IP though often it does
not.
Using subdomains gives you flexibility.
with DANE validation, it is DNSSEC that validates the fingerprint to the
hostname so I do not believe there is a need for the hostname in the
cert to match anything, but DANE validation is currently not used by

Gnome Logouts -- are very slow or they hang -- 2nd post
!
I just installed Centos 4.1 (i386) on one of my test drives.
When ever I try to logout of a Gnome session,
it seems to hang but if I wait about 4-5 minutes it
will usually logout, although I have had it hang
a couple of times (never logs out).
When I do an ALT-TAB-F1, and log in as 'root',
I can see the following processes still hanging
around after Gnome finally does logout:

Thanks Joseph, Aki, but something missing from upgrade document, where
does the dh param file go? I located ssl-parameters.dat so I will put
it there.

This works:
doveadm who -1 2>/dev/null | wc -l
If yopu only want to coutn IMAP connections (not POP3),
doveadm who -1 2>/dev/null | grep -Fc imap
